This morning, told my husband that was so thankful that neither of us had fallen for the feminist agenda. We both wanted marriage for life, have children, & me be home with the children while he worked to provide. God’ S ways are such a blessing. Women need to be taught this.’

Bill TaylorWith all the confusing messages out there, it’s good to review ancient wisdom explaining how men and women ought to interact. The Song of Songs is a poem which was written in Hebrew 3 or 4,000 years ago to explain how husbands and wives should interact. It was preserved by meticulous hand-copying over the centuries because it so well captures the principles of maintaining a happy marriage.1) It starts with the wife praising her husband, right at the beginning. This works because just about every man has strong physical drives. Maybe feeling appreciated by his wife makes a man more inclined to take care of her and to appreciate her by praising her in return?2) There is no criticism AT ALL in the Song, only praise in mind-numbing detail. The man and wife are constantly looking for little things about each other to praise and appreciate. The way it’s put sounds odd to us, but you can easily re-word it to make sense in modern terms. The main thing to learn is that married people need constant praise, support, and affirmation from each other.3) The husband is totally involved with his wife. He tells everyone that he believes she’s uniquely perfect:Song 6:9 My dove, my undefiled is but one; she is the only one of her mother, she is the choice one of her that bare her. The daughters saw her, and blessed her; yea, the queens and the concubines, and they praised her. He’s so focused on her that he doesn’t see other women as women, only as people.4) The wife has the security of knowing that her husband belongs to her:Song 2:16 My beloved is mine, and I am his: he feedeth among the lilies.Song 6:3 I am my beloved’s, and my beloved is mine: he feedeth among the lilies. How should a man behave to convince his wife that he belongs to her?5) The wife recognizes and encourages her husband’s desire for her:Song 7:10 I am my beloved’s, and his desire is toward me.The specific way she encourages him to keep his desire focused on her as opposed to all those other women out there is explained in the next few verses. It also convinces him that she belongs to him. It would be a good idea to read the whole thing; it’s short:http://www.sacred-texts.com/bib/kjv/sol001.htmRead it, you’ll find that she asks her mother for advice. The bottom line is that she has far more sexual capacity than he; she can drain off all of his sexual energy. That makes it hard for other women to get his attention. If she sends him off to work loaded, on the other hand, he’ll be tempted by other women. The entire Song deals with her need to be appreciated. A man can’t praise his wife in such detail without paying close attention. Marriages are based on communication; a woman communicates heart-to-heart, a man communicates belly-to-belly.How many marriages would fail if husband and wife never, not ever, criticized each other and appreciated instead? That is the essence of the Song.No matter how well you follow the principles in the Song, there will be conflict from time to time. This article tells how to deal with conflict:Conflict between workers costs businesses so much that it’s been studied a lot. https://successful-marriage.blogspot.com/…/handling… has a simple research-based way to avoid conflict both in relationships and at work.
