When to be Angry by Tim Green
“When to be Angry”
“Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon
your wrath:” Ephesians 4:26
Jesus Christ tossed the money-changers out of the temple
at the beginning of His earthly ministry and at the end of same
(cf. John 2:15 & 16); (Matt. 21:12 & 13). The disciples
satisfied their curiosity with a Bible verse in the first instance
with Psalm 69:9, quoted in John 2:17.
I do believe we ought to be angry every-once-in-a-while
and have it not coated with sin. I’m afraid there is too little
righteous indignation and moral indigestion displayed against
sin and its awful consequences. I’m concerned that many
preachers have become “sanctified sissies!” Friends, the sins
of our nation, homes and in our own lives ought to raise our
“hackles,” causing a crying out against sin, not only in other’s
lives, but, honestly confessing and forsaking our own, seeking
God’s all-encompassing forgiveness. Perhaps one should
stand up and speak out concerning sin every once or twice in a
while!
Now, how can one be angry and not sin? I think that it has
a lot to do with attitude. To be a pariah-like Pharisee or a
horrible hypocrite is not the trail to go down … mad or angry.
Also, it seems any anger-filled heart ought to be doused in the
fountain of forgiveness by the time the sun sets. So, go ahead,
get angry but dissolve it soon … at dusk. – T.G.
