A Lesson on Fear – Proverbs 29:25
“A Lesson on Fear”
“The fear of man bringeth a snare: but whoso putteth his
trust in the LORD shall be safe.” Proverbs 29:25
If I asked the question, “Have you ever been afraid?” I am
sure I would get a “Yes” from most of you quite quickly. I
would be willing to say that most all of us are not going to go
through a gate that has a sign declaring, “Beware of Dog!”
There is a certain element of fear that provides safety. If one
loses that fear of harming yourself while running power tools,
there is a good chance you lose an appendage ortwo!
But that is not the fear of our text. The fear addressed in
our text is the fear a preacher might get when an unpopular
subject comes up when preaching. It is the fear that prevents
one from handing someone a tract or speaking up when the
opportunity presents itself to witness for Christ. Many times, I
have discovered that when I ignore that “fear” and proceed to
do what I know I am commanded to do, the outcome is not at
all what I thought it would be.
The enemy, the devil, wants us to fear what someone says
or might even do. A friend of mine was punched in the face for
handing tracts to a group of thugs! His response, he kept
handing them out! He had long gotten past the “fear of man.’
What keeps us from obeying God is often the fear of man.
