Submit & Resist – James 4:7

“Submit & Resist”
“Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and
he will flee from you. ” James 4:7

I have heard testimonies in church where not much was
said about God; instead someone talked about how hard the
devil had been on them. God never gets glory when we
magnify Satan; however we must be aware of two things about
the enemy. First, we have to say that he is a defeated foe. God
expelled him from Heaven, cursed him in the garden and
crushed him at Calvary! One day He will chain him in a pit,
then finally toss him into the Lake of Fire. The second thing
about our arch-enemy is that he never gives up. He may be
defeated but he is still going to try to cause you to stumble. He
will do everything in his power to send a soul to Hell. If he
cannot do this, then he will constantly war against the saints, in
hopes of getting them to fall. He is out to ruin everyone of
God’s children. The question that has been asked by many is
this, “How do I overcome the devil?”

The answer to this question is found partially in our verse.
We must submit to God and resist the devil. We are not a
match for him in our own strength. Submission to God gives
us the grace to face the devil, because we do not have to
encounter him alone. Friend, if we say “yes” to God in
submission, He will give us strength and grace to resist Satan
and he will have to flee. – R.G.
