“Foolish But Wise” I Corinthians 1:27
“Foolish But Wise”
“But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to
confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the
world to confound the things which are mighty;”
I Corinthians 1:27
Abraham in his late years, with the counsel of his wife, and
the wisdom of the world decided to have God’s “promised”
child by another woman than his wife! The result was
Ishmael! One of the dangers for a Bible believer is trusting
our own wisdom, strength and ability. A Christian who grows
and gets some experience, a little wisdom and seeming
success, is still in danger of trusting those things rather than
God!
An old Texas preacher, now with the Lord, taught these
four attitudes for every believer at every level of I Corinthians
1:27-29:
1. Let us be foolish enough to have to need God’s wisdom.
2. Let us be weak enough to have to need God’s strength.
3. Let us be base enough to give all glory to God.
4. Let us be humble enough to stay at the feet of Jesus.
Paul wrote to the Christians in Romans 12:3, “not to think
of himself more highly than he ought to think.” And in I
Corinthians 10:12, “Wherefore let him that thinketh he
standeth take heed lest he fall.” Let us stay at Jesus’ feet,
realizing our ever-present weakness and His wondrous
strength. May all the glory, honor and praise go to Christ our
Lord and none be upon us! -C.S.
