37m · I I Timothy 3:16 “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:” We must also “rightly divide the Word of Truth”. II Timothy 2:15 “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” What God said to Israel is to Israel. Israel was given the Law which included the civil law, the religious laws, the dietary laws, and various divers laws. It also included the moral law. Can we learn from it? Of course, but if it becomes intertwined with New Testament instructions to the church, we run into error. Context is important to interpretation. Verses taken out of context and verses misapplied lead to incorrect interpretation of what God’s Word is saying. God’s Word has divisions. The Torah, the historical books, the poetic books, the prophets, the gospels, Acts, the epistles, Revelation. Just because every Word is perfect and all of the inspired Scripture is profitable doesn’t mean everything has direct application you.

· I know this is “preacher stuff” but this is an important point about I John 5:7. Many so called scholars tell us it doesn’t belong. They are wrong. “The close parallel of doctrine between St. John’s Gospel and his First Epistle is admitted on all sides. The law of witness is the common starting-point in both records. The Gospel opens with the witness of St. John the Baptist: the Epistle, with the witness of St. John the Evangelist himself. The Gospel adduces three Heavenly Witnesses [1 John 5:7] in confirmation of its doctrine: a fact which, to complete the universally acknowledged parallel, renders the text of the three Heavenly Witnesses indispensable in the Epistle.” Rev.
