Dan Nelson  ·   · The real issue is: Do Baptists come out of Catholicism? Historical research shows there were Baptist groups before the Reformation if at the very least in practice but I believe there was a succession of practice with groups practicing believer’s baptism and operating independently of the state church which maligned and persecuted them. The way to prove this today is to see if true Baptists have any practice that comes from Catholicism. Protestant churches do such as infant sprinkling, hierarchical church structure, liturgical worship, looking at the Lord’s supper, and sprinkling as sacraments and at one time in their history a state-church arrangement. There is more but these are the main points We are in the free church tradition. The Bible is our sole authority and Christ is our head. We have no altar in our churches which is a Catholic arrangement. instead, the pulpit is the center of our churches and the Word of God is what we preach. SO BAPTISTS ARE NOT PROTESTANT!. I have devoted most of the last few decades of my life studying this subject and I can say this with certainty historically and biblically!
