There are only two ways a girl interacts with a guy: 1) she can be his toy or 2) she can be his treasure. You’ve all seen a little boy play with a truck. He pushes it this way and that, then, when he gets tired of it, he throws it away and grabs another toy. It’s hard on girls when boys get tired of them and throw them away. It is very wrong for a man to toy with a woman, but a lot of women permit this, so boys keep doing it. The book “Unprotected” by Miriam Grossman explains biological reasons why this is so damaging.If a woman might ever want to have children,and most women either want children or will want them, the only type of relationship that makes sense is a long-term mutual commitment. If you try to attract his attention when he hasn’t initiated it you will come across as a toy.Any boy can play with you. It takes a man to stay with you and treat you as a treasure. You can arrange to be where he will see you, and you can perhaps take the same classes or work on the same projects, but unless he’s inherently interested in you enough to make his interest in you unmistakable, it probably won’t last.The most important characteristic of a man is that he be nuts about you, and nobody can make that happen. Toy or treasure, play or stay are the only 2 possibilities, and it’s usually “toy” unless he initiates it. Even in that case, however, since most women act like toys, a woman must declare herself to be a treasure to keep him from assuming she’s just another toy. Nobody knows what draws a man toward a specific woman. Lots of valentines have a naked little kid with a bow and arrow. This represents Cupid, the Greek god of love. When Cupid plinks a man with his arrow, the man falls madly in love with the next woman he sees, and nobody can explain why, least of all him. That’s as good an explanation as any. Or you could think about how Atticus, a long-ago Roman, explained it – “I don’t believe in magic,” the young man said. The Chinese say that a man in love rides a wold horse.The song “Some enchanted evening” says, “fools will give you reasons, wise men never try.” It also tells a man “fly to her side, and make her your own.” How does a man do that? We’ve been married since 1971. It worked because I wanted her strongly enough to meet her terms and conditions, she wanted to be wanted, and because she really did want to be a treasure for her husband. Being treated as a treasure made her happy, and there is no joy for a man this side of heaven like having a woman like belonging to him.There’s an old saying, “It don’t mean a thing if it ain’t got that ZING!” The zing is the man’s desire for one specific woman. If it isn’t there, there’s no way to make it happen.
