“Comfort My People” Isaiah 40:1
“Comfort My People”
“Comfort ye, comfort ye my people, saith your God.”
Isaiah 40:1
In the second verse of Isaiah 40, the Lord says that the war
is over and forgiveness has been granted. A double portion of
grace or a great time of spiritual introspection is in order.
It seems like in America we have more money, yet, more
poverty. We have more homes, yet, more homeless. We enjoy
the benefit of more and better doctors, but, more and worse
sickness. There are more churches in our land than ever
before, and yet, there is more sin, crime and debauchery since
the days of Nero fiddling while Rome burned! Where will it
all end?
If all one does is listen to the foreboding foolishness of
some of the nation’s politicians, prognosticators and pundits,
you might be very uncomfortable, confused and conflicted.
Christians are not to live their lives tossed about by the winds
of the evening news or the mooning of the morning paper (if
you still get one) (or look at the news on your cell!)
Child of God, we have been doubly pardoned, as verse two
shouts to the mountain peaks, “received of the Lord’s hand
double. ” We are twice pardoned, in the fact that our past sins
have been forgiven and provision has been provided for our
future transgressions, iniquities and sins! One ought to find
great comfort in that fact! If that is not enough for you, how
about “the word of our God shall stand for ever.” (vs. 8b)
Nothing has changed with Him, “Jesus Christ the same
yesterday, and to day, and for ever” (Heb. 13:8). Friend, that
ought to bring comfort to any and all of us, in the storms of life
that we may face. – T.G.
