Our Race – Philippians 3:14
“Our Race”
“I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of
God in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 3:14
Today’s thoughts from our text lends itself to this
statement: “A Christian life that costs nothing-is worth
nothing!” There must be in the Christian a self-restraint, a
personal and strict discipline, and a stern schooling of Bible
principles. There must be struggle and agonizing effort to
please our Lord. If we are to reach the goal and win the prize,
we must put every effort of our lives into the conflict with the
world, with self and with Satan. There must be a sacrifice of
our idleness, self-will and personal ease. Unseen, personal
indulgence has spoiled most healthy blessings. Every upright
and godly life is a struggle from beginning to end. Only those
that will knuckle down and labor at it, overcome and are
successful in the Christian life.
“Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so
great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and
the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with
patience the race that is set before us” (Heb. 12:1).
This principle is true in every sphere: in business, in academics, and
in our spiritual lives. Brethren, are we resisting sin,
overcoming temptation and living victorious in trials? If not,
we are not living worthily. Paul wrote, “Whereunto I also
labour, striving according to his working, which worketh in
me mightily” (Col. 1:29). – G.K.
