Why do bad things happen to good people?
“Like The Wind”
“The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the
sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither
it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.” John 3:8
Sitting on the back porch of a lovely place, in the
northwoods of Michigan (in the summer) I was reminded of
this verse. The morning breeze was flowing through the trees
as the sun was just peeking through the foliage on its regular
visit to the horizon. Its flashing brilliance on this visit to the
leaves, seemed to signal in semaphore the events of the
coming day to be enjoyed or the lifetime ahead to be
experienced.
As our verse so wondrously explains, the wind’s sound
could be heard, its effects enjoyed … but to know where it came
from or where it was going was inexplainable and
unknowable. For the Christian, this is truly the way of life as
God’s child. No one can know or tell, when in the midst of
life’s flowing ups and downs-the Why! Why does this child
have a life-altering malady? Why does this man have the
Midas Touch and everything he endeavors to accomplish turns
to gold, and another good man is dwarfed in poverty? Why do
bad things happen to good people? Why does divorce or
spiritual infidelity befall the steps of one trying to do
right … always?
The wind blows, the trees sway, the leaves sparkle, ” … so
is every one that is born of the Spirit.” Only God knows and
He never tells! Just trust Him my friends, He knows best …
