“The Father’s Business”
“And he said unto them, How is it that ye sought me? wist
ye not that I must be about my Father’s business?” Luke 2:49
Jesus Christ at 12 years of age astonished Mary and
Joseph, and also, the doctors and Bible scholars of the day by
“being about my Father’s business. ” I think most of us would
love to have been a fly-on-the-wall watching Jesus, a lad at the
time, confound, astound and with profundity confront and
amaze those learned men! Joseph and Mary got quite an earful
and eyeful too!
Christ’s Father’s business on earth was summed up to a
great extent with these words from Luke 7:22: the blind saw,
the lame walked, lepers were cleansed, the deaf heard, the
dead were raised, and the glorious Gospel was preached to the
poor! His business further included the death on the cross,
burial in a cave, and the resurrection! His business today is
saving the lost, filling them with the Holy Spirit and sending
them out to reach others. By the way, there is another business
venture on the horizon. It’s called the resurrection of the bodies
of dead Christians and the Rapture of the church! Now, there’s
a business transaction I look forward to being involved in-
from rather dead to preferably alive!!
You know, I think all of us have a responsibility
concerning the resumé of our lives, that is, being about our
heavenly Father’s business. I don’t want to be on strike, a
slacker or a retired soldier of the cross. May God help us to
hold His banner high-OPEN FOR BUSINESS! -T.G.
