AMERICA’S ILLITERACY MILLS AND INDOCTRINATION CENTERS

“Only the educated are free.”—Epictetus CHARLES CURTMAN

Introducing the Substack app

John Adams spoke for all our founding fathers when he said, “Children should be educated and instructed in the principles of freedom.” This doesn’t happen in modern America. It hasn’t been the case for at least five decades.

Last week the Wall Street Journal reported the tragic, but not surprising news, that 78% of high school seniors tested in 2024 were less than proficient in mathematics and 65% were less than proficient in reading, the worst numbers since the Department of Education began compiling this data. An article in the November 2024 Atlantic addressed the growing number of college students who, effectively, have never read an entire book.

Not being “proficient” means that 78% of America’s high school graduates are unable to read, and 65% of them can’t do math. These dumbed down and undisciplined young adults have been dumped by a Marxist controlled public school system into our workforce, welfare rolls, and are now part of our voting electorate—people who have been indoctrinated by Liberals and other Leftist losers for years in what to think, but not how to think or arrive at an intellectual conclusion by themselves.

The dumbing down of America in public schools and colleges and universities has been statistically documented year after year. Scores of books have been written about it. This hasn’t come about by accident. The Democrat Party and the rest of the Left are largely responsible.

Democrat president Jimmy Carter held the record for incompetency in the Oval Office until Joe Biden stumbled into it. Carter created the U.S. Department of Education in 1979, which the Left proceeded to turn into a massive dumbing-down machine. Before then, local PTA’s cooperated together with school administrations and teachers to educate America’s children

The current administration in Washington DC recognizes the threat to national security that the U. S. Department of Education poses, and has set about to abolish it. This can’t happen too soon. In the meantime, parents and young people need to heed

Thomas Jefferson, another of our Founding Fathers, left us with some wise counsel and encouragement; he said, “Enlighten the people generally, and tyranny and oppressions of body and mind will vanish like evil spirits at the dawn of day. People need to be “enlightened” via social media and in every way possible as to how dangerous and generally worthless the public education system is – especially where state and Ivy League colleges and universities are concerned.

Only the educated are free.” —Epictetus
