CHRISTMAS AND THE NEW YEAR

December 27, 2025 A Warning Ministry APOLOGETICS TRUTH DEFENDED Wolf Watch False Teaching Exposed 0

CHARLES CURTMANFacebook – Dec 27, 2025 – Last. week, I received a greeting card from a business wishing me a “Happy Holiday and a Happy New Year.” The contrast between the genericity, ambiguity and vagueness assigned to the event celebrated this week and the specificity assigned to the one to be celebrated next week was hard to overlook. But not hard to understand in a society that is becoming more and more godless and anti-Christ ( 2 Tim. 3:1-3; 1 John 4:3).

The spirit of of anti-Christ has taken hold of multitudes today without their even being aware of the extent to which this has happened and is happening to them. Thus the replacement of the Word “Christmas” with a generic, meaningless word such as “holiday.”

CHRISTMAS IS A TIME TO BE REMINDED OF SOMETHING. Christmas is unlike New Year’s Day which constitutes little more than a special recognition to the mere passage of time from one year into another year, Christmas constitutes a celebration of the greatest and most significant event ever to have taken place in the world: when God in the Person of the second Person of the godhead came personally and purposefully into the world. He came by way of the miracle of the Incarnation to reveal Himself to mankind in His essence, which is love (1. John 4:8). And He came to redeem mankind from the penalty of sin by way of a cruel cross on which He paid the sin debt for all of us (Rom. 6:23; Phil. 2:5-8; Gal. 3:10-25; Isa. 53; Ps. 22). This is the great Truth, the great happening that Christmas represents.

CHRISTMAS IS A TIME FOR REJOICING. All over the world, people “out of every kindred, tongue, and people, and nation” (Rev. 5:9) will rejoice in the knowledge that God has made everlasting life a gift through Jesus Christ our Lord (Rom. 6:23; Eph. 2:8, 9; 2 Cor. 9:15). Multitudes will rejoice in the knowledge that they have accepted God’s Gift themselves, and that it is a Gift that remains available to others who will turn from their sin and receive Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior (John 1:12; 3:16; Rom. 10:13;

CHRISTMAS IS A TIME FOR REFLECTION. Proper reflection on the significance Christmas is essential to any true significance that the New Year might have for anyone. Christians should, as they reflect on the significance of Christmas and its bearing on time and eternity, reassess and perhaps rearrange some of their priorities according to Jesus’ admonition: “Seek. ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you” (Matt. 6:33).

Proper reflection on the meaning of Christmas will help us properly perceive the real meaning, purpose and potential of life as we enter into the News Year. It will help us put the things of this world into proper perspective and in their proper place as we are reminded of who we are, and why we are here and where we are going (1 Cor. 6:11-13, 20; Matt. 5:13-16; Rom. 12:1, 2; Acts 1:8; Phil. 3:20, 21; John14:2).
