AMERICA’S “CAESAR” -OUR CONSTITUTIONAL REPUBLIC WILL BE PRESERVED WHEN AND IF CHRISTIANS BEGIN TO UNDERSTAND THIS.
“Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.
Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation.
For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same:
For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil.
Wherefore ye must needs be subject, not only for wrath, but also for conscience sake.
For for this cause pay ye tribute also: for they are God’s ministers, attending continually upon this very thing.
Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honour to whom honour.”—Rom. 13:1-7
The words “higher powers” in verse one and “power” in verse two of Romans, chapter 13 are references to civil government. Government, throughout the history of nations has existed in different forms; sometimes as one-person rule, either aa a monarch, a dictator or, as was the case in New Testament times, in the form of a Caesar. At times, nations have been ruled by a n oligarchy—a small group of people. True democracy, a concept of government where all national policy decisions are decided by the majority of the people without elected representatives, was tried once, and briefly, in ancient Athens where it failed miserably.
Americans have never been governed according to the will or the whims of any one person or those of a small group of people such as an oligarchy or junta. America was never meant to be a democracy; a system which the founding fathers had no faith in, and that they hated and feared. (Those who refer to our Constitutional Republic as a “democracy” do it either insidiously with the intent of misleading people or because they they are inexcusably and irresponsibly ignorant).
Our Republic, also known as ”The Great Experiment” is based on written law as it is codified in The Constitution of the United States. Our “higher powers”—the system of government, the “power” to which we are to be subject and support is the written law of the Land embodied in Constitution. This is why those who enter the military take a solemn oath to “support and defend the Constitution (not a President or a Congress) against all enemies foreign and domestic.”
The “Caesar” unto which we are to render” the things which are Caesar’s (Matt. 22:21), “for Americans, is the U. S. Constitution. The more clearly citizens, Christian and non-Cristian, understand this, the safer they will be from a tyrant in our Oval Office or tyrannical leaders within the halls of our Congress, who themselves vow (as required by Article VI of the Constitution) to “support and defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic.”
Biblical, responsible Christianity requires us to submit to the “higher power’ which is the Law of the land, which is the U. S Constitution. Our duty is to make our unique and essential contribution as Christians and citizens to the preservation of our Republic as we submit to, support and defend government “of the people, by the people and for the people” as it has been codified once and for all in The United States Constitution.
