Daily Devotion in Galatians 1<\/strong>

Daily Nugget:<\/strong>In writing to churches (Galatians 1:2) in Galatia, Paul saw something in the churches that did not please him. He was concerned that they learned what he taught them and changed it. 
What Paul had taught them was given to the apostle as a revelation from Jesus Christ (Galatians 1:12). The Gospel was not open to discussion or change, yet that is what they were doing. They were preaching and teaching another \u201cgospel\u201d (Galatians 1:6) other than what they had first learned. Since there is only one Gospel, what they were teaching was false. It was a perversion of the truth (Galatians 1:7).
Today, similar perversions are occurring. Many churches and denominations teach doctrines contrary to what is taught in the preserved King James Bible. 
Even the changing of the foundation of the truth, the Bible, is rampant everywhere. Over 300 different perversions of God\u2019s Word in English further add to other teachings. The result is more confusion, fewer conversions, and many opinions of what men think God\u2019s Word says or means.
Something newer and better should warn believers that something is amiss. The \u201cmodernized and less strict\u201d church services, modern music, and new, revised \u201cbibles\u201d should send shivers down a Christian\u2019s spine, that something is changing. God\u2019s Word is perfect; it does not need revision. If it did, the Lord Himself would be the one doing it, not man. There is one God and one way to please Him \u2014 His way.

Today\u2019s Reading:<\/strong>Galatians 11 Paul, an apostle, (not of men, neither by man, but by Jesus Christ, and God the Father, who raised him from the dead;)2 And all the brethren which are with me, unto the churches of Galatia:3 Grace be to you and peace from God the Father, and from our Lord Jesus Christ,4 Who gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us from this present evil world, according to the will of God and our Father:5 To whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.6 \u00b6 I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel:7 Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ.8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.9 As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.10 \u00b6 For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ.11 But I certify you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached of me is not after man.12 For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught it, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ.13 For ye have heard of my conversation in time past in the Jews’ religion, how that beyond measure I persecuted the church of God, and wasted it:14 And profited in the Jews’ religion above many my equals in mine own nation, being more exceedingly zealous of the traditions of my fathers.15 But when it pleased God, who separated me from my mother’s womb, and called me by his grace,16 To reveal his Son in me, that I might preach him among the heathen; immediately I conferred not with flesh and blood:17 Neither went I up to Jerusalem to them which were apostles before me; but I went into Arabia, and returned again unto Damascus.18 Then after three years I went up to Jerusalem to see Peter, and abode with him fifteen days.19 But other of the apostles saw I none, save James the Lord’s brother.20 Now the things which I write unto you, behold, before God, I lie not.21 Afterwards I came into the regions of Syria and Cilicia;22 And was unknown by face unto the churches of Judaea which were in Christ:23 But they had heard only, That he which persecuted us in times past now preacheth the faith which once he destroyed.24 And they glorified God in me.\u2014 Bill Brinkworth<\/em>
Not What I Got \u2014 Coveting!\ufeff<\/strong>Although there are crimes and harm done to many, few see the root cause of most wrong-doing. The sin of coveting, or not being content with what one has, rears its ugly scowl on a daily basis. It is often the driving force in:Adultery \u2014 Someone is not happy with their choice in spouses, and wants a mate another has.Arguments \u2013 Sometimes folks are not content with others\u2019 opinions of them, so they try to raise opinions of themselves by displaying a different intellect or personalityCheating \u2013 One wants grades they do not have, without working for them.Lies \u2013 To make others think better of them, countless lies have been told.Hoarding \u2014 In order to fill a spiritual hole in one’s life, many try to fill it with the “security” of things.Murders \u2014 Many have been killed for another\u2019s possessions.Robberies \u2014 Someone wanted something he did not have but would not work for it.Sexual crimes are often committed to get what they do not have without waiting for the right mate or to get the power over a person they do not have.Taxes \u2013 To get others\u2019 money from them without working for it, countless millions have been taxed.Wars \u2014 Many wars have been started so others could obtain what another country had.On and on the list could go of activities and problems spurned by the sin of coveting \u2026
Coveting is sin no matter what is desired, be it money, fame, clothing, toys, houses, bicycles, or education. It is the breaking of God\u2019s command.\u201cThou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’s wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour’s.\u201d Ex. 20:1<\/em>7  Also: Deuteronomy 5:21, Romans 13:9
Although the grievous grasp of the sin of coveting has always been a temptation, it is very enticing today. The whole television industry is funded by ads feeding on man\u2019s weakness of wanting more. Stores line most streets displaying wares that are \u201cnew, improved, and better.\u201d Advertising works very hard to magnify one\u2019s discontent with what they have; so that others will purchase the newest item. On and on the temptations rage, pulling one in the direction of this \u201ctolerated\u201d sin.
Like any other sin, coveting is not acceptable in God\u2019s eyes. That is why God commands us to abstain from it. He wants us far from this sin, not because He wants to deny our having the pleasures of life, but because they often lead to an unsustainable appetite and lust that can never be satisfied.
The only way one can achieve victory over this sin is to first admit to God that it is sin. He knows it is, but God wants us to humbly admit our shortcomings and disobedience to Him. Discontentment is saying indirectly that we are not happy with what God has allowed us to have. Secondly, be content with what you have, and you will be happier. Be truly thankful for what you have, and thank the Lord for His allowing you to obtain it. Perhaps, this is why the scripture has far more verses on being thankful and giving praise than it does on getting the things of this world.
There are times when new things are needed, and God certainly does not want us to live in purposeful poverty when He can provide for our needs. However, He does not want us to be led by lusts that can never be satisfied. Be happy with what you have.\u201cNot that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.\u201d Philippians 4:11\u201cAnd having food and raiment let us be therewith content.\u201d I Timothy 6:8\u201cLet your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.\u201d Hebrews 13:5<\/em>

Mini Sermon:<\/strong>\u201cI marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel:” Galatians 1:6<\/em>
Paul recognized a problem we see too frequently today. People get saved, are faithful and serve for awhile, and soondrift away.
In that Galatian church, for many it was false teaching and its confusinginfluence that lured many away. That is also true today, as is worldliness and attraction to things other than obeying and living God’s way.
Be faithful to the first love you had for the Saviour. His way is the best; follow it!“Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love.” Rev. 2:4<\/em> Although this verse wasdirectedto a church in Ephesus, its principle applies today.
