Daily Devotion in Hebrews 12

Daily Nugget:The end of Hebrews 11 listed many that lost their lives for their faith, but the trials most of us face are nothing like they dealt with (Hebrews 12:4). Even the perfect Son of God faced difficulties imposed by others of far inferior spiritual standing (Hebrews 12:3). We should not be surprised when hard times come our way.
However, some of the \u201chard times\u201d many faces are self-induced. Often, the problems experienced are the side effects of one\u2019s sin. Other times, our tribulations result from one\u2019s heavenly Father disciplining us for straying from the path He desired us to take.
Those who utter, \u201cI can\u2019t understand how a God of love could punish His own children\u201d certainly do not know the Bible’s God. If our earthly fathers discipline us (Hebrews 12:7, 9), or at least they should we should expect a correction from our spiritual Father when we step out of line. Despite what socially \u201ccorrected\u201d people think, one who loves his children should discipline them when they are not doing right. God loves His own children and certainly will correct them when they do wrong.\u201cFor whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.\u201d Hebrews 12:6
Sometimes there are ones who say, \u201cWell, God has never disciplined me!\u201d I do not know you, but I know that you still are not perfect even if you are saved (Romans 3:23). You may be forgiven, but you still transgress against God\u2019s commandments. If you commit iniquity and are one of God\u2019s children, He will deal with your wrongdoing. No one gets away with any sin!
It may be a serious situation if you claim you are saved, but insist that God has never disciplined you when you have gotten involved in sin. Either your discipline is on its way, or you may not even be saved! A good, earthly father may discipline his own children but would not correct the neighbor\u2019s children. Likewise, God only corrects His own.\u201cBut if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons.\u201d Hebrews 12:8
No one likes to be corrected, and since NO ONE gets away with iniquity, there is a simple solution to avoid consequences; flee sin! Keep as far away from it as possible!
Today\u2019s Thought: \u201cFor those that say, \u2018A lot of people get away with sin,\u2019 I have a question for you. Why are the jails so full, divorces so high, people so unhappy, many lives ruined by transgressions against God\u2019s commandments, and Hell at near capacity? Those situations are not because everyone sat around and practiced what they read in their Bible! There is an expensive price tag on iniquity!\u201d

Today\u2019s Reading:Hebrews 121 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.3 For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds.4 \u00b6 Ye have not yet resisted unto blood, striving against sin.5 And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him:6 For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.7 If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not?8 But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons.9 Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live?10 For they verily for a few days chastened us after their own pleasure; but he for our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness.11 Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.12 Wherefore lift up the hands which hang down, and the feeble knees;13 And make straight paths for your feet, lest that which is lame be turned out of the way; but let it rather be healed.14 Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:15 Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled;16 Lest there be any fornicator, or profane person, as Esau, who for one morsel of meat sold his birthright.17 For ye know how that afterward, when he would have inherited the blessing, he was rejected: for he found no place of repentance, though he sought it carefully with tears.18 \u00b6 For ye are not come unto the mount that might be touched, and that burned with fire, nor unto blackness, and darkness, and tempest,19 And the sound of a trumpet, and the voice of words; which voice they that heard intreated that the word should not be spoken to them any more:20 (For they could not endure that which was commanded, And if so much as a beast touch the mountain, it shall be stoned, or thrust through with a dart:21 And so terrible was the sight, that Moses said, I exceedingly fear and quake:)22 But ye are come unto mount Sion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels,23 To the general assembly and church of the firstborn, which are written in heaven, and to God the Judge of all, and to the spirits of just men made perfect,24 And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than that of Abel.25 See that ye refuse not him that speaketh. For if they escaped not who refused him that spake on earth, much more shall not we escape, if we turn away from him that speaketh from heaven:26 Whose voice then shook the earth: but now he hath promised, saying, Yet once more I shake not the earth only, but also heaven.27 And this word, Yet once more, signifieth the removing of those things that are shaken, as of things that are made, that those things which cannot be shaken may remain.28 Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear:29 For our God is a consuming fire.\u2014 Bill Brinkworth
False Statements about Modern Bible Translations and Versions
“And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.\u201d Rev. 22:19 
Be very cautious and stay far away from the numerous modern Bibles! Much of what the new Bibles claim is false.# \u201cThey make the Bible easier to understand.\u201d Much of the King James Bible is at a 5.8 grade reading level (1) (Flesh-Kincaid Grade level indicator). The New International Version is at a 8.4 grade level; The New King James Bible is at 6.9, and the New American Standard Bible is at 8.12. Besides that, it is the Holy Spirit that allows anyone to have knowledge of God\u2019s Word, not man\u2019s editing (I Cor. 2:14)1!
Another motive is also behind \u201cmaking the ‘bible’ easier to understand.\u201d That motive is to make money. If there are numerous changes, it can copyrighted, and its owner can earn money from its sales, as it is a new and different book. The King James Bible is not copyrighted, so no one makes anything by its sale!# \u201cThey come from the originals,\u201d or \u201coriginate from more reliable manuscripts.\u201d The originals were never assembled in one place together. What some call more \u201creliable\u201d manuscripts were the ones that were historically rejected by earlier believers because of their corruption, errors, and were seldom used. That is why some of the older manuscripts were in good condition.# \u201cThey change \u2018archaic\u2019 words.\u201d They do, but in many places the words replacing them change the meaning of the verse. There are less than 20 words, not including verbs that have \u201ceth\u201d added to them, in the KJV that are not commonly used today. It would make more sense to understand their meaning by the use of a dictionary, rather than to change the whole Bible. Many modern books have words that the reader often has to look up in the dictionary, and no one even thinks of rewriting them to make them easier to understand.# \u201cScholars now know more than they knew then.\u201d Many of the authors and translators of the new versions did not even know Hebrew or Greek; nor were they expert in over 10+ ancient languages, as were many in the 1611 King James translating committee. The translators of the King James Bible were some of the most outstanding scholars and Christians of all time.# \u201cThey come from older manuscripts.\u201d The Masoretic Hebrew Text and the Greek Textus Receptus used in the KJV are the older and more reliable manuscripts, not what is used in most modern versions. Some of what are called the \u201colder texts\u201d are not reliable at all. Historically they were avoided because of their known mistakes and alterations. Also, some of the \u201cmost ancient manuscripts\u201d are actually over 100 years newer than those used in the KJV.# \u201cThey are correcting errors.\u201d There are no known errors in the King James Bible! Most of what people call errors are intellectual or spiritual problems people have with what God said and had recorded. Changing His words may ease their consciences, but it does not make it God\u2019s Word, will and way.
If the new Bible versions are correcting \u201cerrors,\u201d why are all 300+ versions different from each other? Don\u2019t they have it right yet? Why are they still changing them?
Several years ago, there was a web site rewarding a large sum of money to anyone who could find an error in the KJV. As far as I know, no one has ever found an error and has never collected a cent from the site!# \u201cThe new versions are more reliable.\u201d Most versions are written to teach the beliefs of the author(s), religion, or organization that produced the work. The scripture that was contrary to their beliefs was removed or changed. Also, the King James translators were honest enough that if they added words to make the context understood or to show what the Hebrew or Greek meant, they italicized the words. Most modern versions remove the italicized words or do not italicize them.# \u201cIt is egotistical to think that only the King James in English is preserved.\u201d There is a text that comes from the Masoretic Text and Textus Receptus for all the major languages, including: English, Greek, Hebrew, French, and Spanish. Most of the major languages also have the preserved Word of God available to them.

Stick with the King James Bible! It is the reliable, preserved Word of God!

 Mini Sermon:\u201cWherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,\u201d Hebrews 12:1 I love the preciseness of the 1611 English used in the Authorized King James Bible.  People do not need a new Bible perversion to help them understand what God wants them to know.  They need a clearer understanding of English! The \u201cbeset\u201d used to describe the burden and danger sin can be to us is very exacting.  \u201cBeset\u201d means \u201cannoy continuously or chronically, assail or attack from all sides.\u201d We are surrounded by iniquity and its temptations.  It will snag and control us if we are not wary and resistant.   Be always on the alert!  Sin is nearby and can easily ruin your life.\u201cAnd take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting [overindulging], and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares.\u201d Luke 21:34 o that day come upon you unawares.” Luke 21:34
