“The Closest To Jesus’ Heart”<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/em>“And that repentance and remission of sins should be<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

preached in his name among all nations, beginning at<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jerusalem. And ye are witnesses of these things.’<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Luke 24:47-48<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you and I could sit down and talk for ten minutes, when<\/p>\n\n\n\n

the ten minutes were over, what would be my opinion as to<\/p>\n\n\n\n

what was closest to your heart? When the time was up and you<\/p>\n\n\n\n

went away, I wonder what you would say was closest to my<\/p>\n\n\n\n

heart? Jesus left us with no doubt about what was closest to<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His heart.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The apostolic, evangelistic, soul-winning church of<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jerusalem did not preach a program but they preached a<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Person! They did not deal in abstract theories or philosophies,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

but they lifted up and magnified a real and living Saviour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They did not deal with technicalities while their generation<\/p>\n\n\n\n

rushed headlong into Hell; they majored on the message of life<\/p>\n\n\n\n

as found in the Son of God. They did not preach to please<\/p>\n\n\n\n

everybody and offend nobody; they preached with the power<\/p>\n\n\n\n

and demonstration of the Holy Spirit and brought conviction<\/p>\n\n\n\n

and fear to the heart of the ungodly. They lifted up Jesus and<\/p>\n\n\n\n

magnified Him in all His glorious attributes!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I’m sure you heard the story of the young pastor, well-<\/p>\n\n\n\n

educated, refined and eloquent who took a new pulpit and<\/p>\n\n\n\n

preached, but no food was found for his listeners. He found a<\/p>\n\n\n\n

note on his pulpit one Sunday that read, “Sir, we would see<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jesus!”<\/strong> It angered him at first, then convicted him and<\/p>\n\n\n\n

brought him to his knees in prayer … and he was a changed<\/p>\n\n\n\n

preacher! “And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon<\/p>\n\n\n\n

you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued<\/p>\n\n\n\n

with power from on high” (Luke 24:49). – T.M.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
