Think on These Things…<\/strong>\ufeff Daily Devotion in Mark 8<\/strong>
Don’t have the time to read the devotion, then<\/em><\/strong> <\/strong>HEAR the Devotion<\/a>.HEAR<\/a> <\/strong>the DAILY VIEW devotion on <\/em><\/strong>WLVF<\/a> (after the 6 AM EST news).<\/em><\/strong>Daily Nugget:<\/strong>\u201cFor whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel’s, the same shall save it. For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?\u201d Mark 8:35-37<\/em>
The majority of the world has similar goals. Their desires drive them to have all the things and comforts they can get in this life.
A never-satisfied desire pushes one to work two jobs to buy the newest car with all the bells and whistles. Another \u201cshiny\u201d thing shows its tempting gleam \u2014 a new house. Then, both husband and wife must work to pay for the house\u2019s demanding mortgage. All the other people at work and the kids at school have the newest fashions, so more covetous desires must somehow be fulfilled. On and on, one\u2019s life goes, always wanting more. The eyes of men are never satisfied.\u201cHell and destruction are never full; so the eyes of man are never satisfied.\u201d Proverb 27:20<\/em>
Great effort and care are given to meet so many \u201cwants,\u201d but the most important part of a person is usually forgotten about and neglected. It is one\u2019s soul, which many are not concerned about, especially where it will spend eternity.
At the end of one\u2019s life, it will not matter what car was driven or how many rooms were in one\u2019s house. What will matter is what one does with his soul. A person can gain many things this world offers, but what good will it be if their soul perishes in the eternal Lake of Fire?
While you have breath, make sure you are not trading the things of this world for where your soul will spend eternity. If you are, it is a decision you will regret eternally. Instead, accept Jesus Christ as your personal Saviour (Romans 10:9-10), and then put your energy into pleasing Him. Do not deny Him by ignoring Him.\u201cThat if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.\u201d Romans 10:9<\/em>

Today\u2019s Reading:<\/strong>Mark 8<\/em>1 In those days the multitude being very great, and having nothing to eat, Jesus called his disciples unto him, and saith unto them,<\/em>2 I have compassion on the multitude, because they have now been with me three days, and have nothing to eat:<\/em>3 And if I send them away fasting to their own houses, they will faint by the way: for divers of them came from far.<\/em>4 And his disciples answered him, From whence can a man satisfy these men with bread here in the wilderness?<\/em>5 And he asked them, How many loaves have ye? And they said, Seven.<\/em>6 And he commanded the people to sit down on the ground: and he took the seven loaves, and gave thanks, and brake, and gave to his disciples to set before them; and they did set them before the people.<\/em>7 And they had a few small fishes: and he blessed, and commanded to set them also before them.<\/em>8 So they did eat, and were filled: and they took up of the broken meat that was left seven baskets.<\/em>9 And they that had eaten were about four thousand: and he sent them away.<\/em>10 \u00b6 And straightway he entered into a ship with his disciples, and came into the parts of Dalmanutha.<\/em>11 And the Pharisees came forth, and began to question with him, seeking of him a sign from heaven, tempting him.<\/em>12 And he sighed deeply in his spirit, and saith, Why doth this generation seek after a sign? verily I say unto you, There shall no sign be given unto this generation.<\/em>13 And he left them, and entering into the ship again departed to the other side.<\/em>14 Now the disciples had forgotten to take bread, neither had they in the ship with them more than one loaf.<\/em>15 And he charged them, saying, Take heed, beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, and of the leaven of Herod.<\/em>16 And they reasoned among themselves, saying, It is because we have no bread.<\/em>17 And when Jesus knew it, he saith unto them, Why reason ye, because ye have no bread? perceive ye not yet, neither understand? have ye your heart yet hardened?<\/em>18 Having eyes, see ye not? and having ears, hear ye not? and do ye not remember?<\/em>19 When I brake the five loaves among five thousand, how many baskets full of fragments took ye up? They say unto him, Twelve.<\/em>20 And when the seven among four thousand, how many baskets full of fragments took ye up? And Peter answereth and saith unto him, Thou art the Christ.<\/em>30 And he charged them that they should tell no man of him.<\/em>31 And he began to teach them, that the Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders, and of the chief priests, and scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again.<\/em>32 And he spake that saying openly. And Peter took him, and began to rebuke him.<\/em>33 But when he had turned about and looked on his disciples, he rebuked Peter, saying, Get thee behind me, Satan: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but the things that be of men.<\/em>34 And when he had called the people unto him with his disciples also, he said unto them, Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.<\/em>35 For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel’s, the same shall save it.<\/em>36 For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?<\/em>37 Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?<\/em>38 Whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation; of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he cometh in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.<\/em>

\ufeffLoaded Down with Harmless Things<\/strong>C. Roy Angell, \u201cThe Teacher\u201d<\/em>
Alas, so many Christians are weighted down with so-called \u201cHarmless Things!\u201d D. L. Moody illustrated this truth dramatically in a service. He did not appear on the platform as usual at the beginning of the service but had Mr. Sankey say, \u201cMr. Moody will come onto the platform looking different than you ever saw him at the preaching hour.\u201d
With their curiosity sufficiently aroused and the time for the sermon, Mr. Moody appeared with a tremendous pack strapped onto his back. He walked slowly across the platform, turned, and walked back. Then he asked the audience, \u201cDo you think I could preach like Jesus wants me to with this load on my back?
\u201cHowever, it is made up of fine things. There is no whiskey bottle nor a pair of dice in it. It is filled with clothes and many other \u2018harmless\u2019 things. Some of you are trying to serve Christ while you carry a lot of harmful \u2018weights\u2019 on your back. Jesus said you must be different and \u2018separated\u2019 from the world. You must leave some otherwise \u2018harmless\u2019 things behind.\u201d


No Place for a Christian<\/strong>F. Fothergill in <\/em>A Doctor In Many Countries<\/em>
A certain titled British gentleman was converted to Christianity. He loved the Lord a great deal, but he was not taught well in the Scriptures. He thought that he could continue in some of his worldly engagements and still bear a good testimony. On an occasion some weeks after he gave his heart to the Lord, this man accepted an invitation to a very worldly party. Upon his arrival, one of the guests greeted him with these words, \u201cI\u2019m so glad to see you and to know that it isn\u2019t true.\u201d \u201cI beg your pardon,\u201d he replied, \u201cbut, I think I don\u2019t quite understand you.\u201d \u201cWhy,\u201d said the other guest, \u201crumors were around that you had been converted a few weeks ago. I\u2019m so glad you\u2019re here and to know that the rumor was unfounded.\u201d \u201cBut, it is true!\u201d the dumfounded man sputtered. Hesitating a moment, he added, \u201cI see that you think this party is no place for a Christian to be, and you are right. You will never again see me at such an affair, nor will anyone else.\u201d Bidding his host and hostess adieu, he departed from his last world\u2019s engagement.
