SUNDAY, JUNE 27, 2021 – Winning the Lost – God Depends on Us<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

God chose to give us, His people, responsibility for telling lost people how to be saved:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: 20<\/sup>Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.  Matthew 28:19-20<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. 16<\/sup>He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.  Mark 16:15-16<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

The Holy Spirit inspired Paul to explain that we must convince people that they need to be saved in order to go to Heaven instead of being cast into Hell even if they\u2019re offended at being told they\u2019re sinners:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men;  II Corinthians 5:11<\/strong>a<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ.  Galatians 1:10<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

The Message<\/h1>\n\n\n\n

We must use the Word of God because God\u2019s word is alive and powerful, not our words.  We must convince sinners of their need for a savior before we can \u201cTeach them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you.\u201d  This message discusses some of the objections which people may offer when you try to give them the gospel of repentance and salvation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s easy to convince most people that they\u2019ve sinned by disobeying God.  Did you ever disobey your parents?  God commands you to obey your parents:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right.  Ephesians 6:1<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Children, obey your parents in all things: for this is well pleasing unto the Lord.  Colossians 3:20<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Did you ever take a cookie after your parents told you not to?  You\u2019ve stolen:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thou shalt not steal.  Exodus 20:15<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Sinners generally say they\u2019re pretty good and try to convince themselves that God will let them into heaven because of all the good they do.  We have to convince them of God\u2019s view of their sins:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.  Isaiah 64:6<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: 11<\/sup>There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. 12<\/sup>They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.  Romans 3:10-12<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Being Drawn<\/h1>\n\n\n\n

The Bible tells us that God must draw people before they can be saved:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.  John 6:44<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

We have no way to know whether a person is being drawn or not, so we have to give the Word of God at every opportunity.  We can pray that God will lead us to people whom He has drawn so that we can plant and water the Gospel, but it is God who gives the increase.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When God draws a person, they may be aware that something is wrong without knowing why.  That is the best opportunity for us to find out where they\u2019re thinking.  These verses may help you overcome common problems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Common Objections<\/h1>\n\n\n\n

MAY NOT REALLY BELIEVE IN GOD:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.  Genesis 1:1<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork.  Psalm 19:1<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.  Psalm 14:1<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. Corrupt are they, and have done abominable iniquity: there is none that doeth good.  Psalm 53:1<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

For every house is builded by some man; but he that built all things is God.  Hebrews 3:4<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

MAY SAY THEY\u2019RE AN AGNOSTIC:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

MAY DENY BEING A SINNER IN SPITE OF YOUR SIMPLE EXPLANATION:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Of sin, because they believe not on me;  John 16:9<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God. 20<\/sup>Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin. 21<\/sup>But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets; 22<\/sup>Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference: 23<\/sup>For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;  Romans 3:19-23<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all. 11<\/sup>For he that said, Do not commit adultery, said also, Do not kill. Now if thou commit no adultery, yet if thou kill, thou art become a transgressor of the law.  James 2:10-11<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.  James 4:17<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

CLAIM TO BE GOOD ENOUGH NOT TO NEED A SAVIOR:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.  John 3:3<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18<\/sup>He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.  John 3:17-18<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.  John 3:36<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

DOES NOT FEEL THE JOY THAT SHOULD COME BEFORE ACCEPTING CHRIST<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Our feelings have nothing to do with Christ, salvation is based on faith, not feelings.  Joy comes later:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory: 9<\/sup>Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls.  I<\/strong> Peter 1:8-9<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

AFRAID OF NOT BEING ABLE TO ENDURE AFTER BECOMING A CHRISTIAN<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

What man of you, having an hundred sheep, if he lose one of them, doth not leave the ninety and nine in the wilderness, and go after that which is lost, until he find it?  Luke 15:4<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: 28<\/sup>And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.  John 10:27-28<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. 30<\/sup>Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.  Romans 8:29-30<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:  Philippians 1:6<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

HESITATES BECAUSE OF WEAK FAITH<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief.  Mark 9:24b<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.  John 6:37<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

IS ALREADY SAVED BUT HAS FALLEN AWAY INTO BACKSLIDING<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

O Israel, return unto the LORD thy God; for thou hast fallen by thine iniquity. 2<\/sup>Take with you words, and turn to the LORD: say unto him, Take away all iniquity, and receive us graciously: so will we render the calves of our lips. 3<\/sup>Asshur shall not save us; we will not ride upon horses: neither will we say any more to the work of our hands, Ye are our gods: for in thee the fatherless findeth mercy. 4<\/sup>I will heal their backsliding, I will love them freely: for mine anger is turned away from him.  Hosea 14:1-4<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

CLINGS TO THE PLEASURES OF THIS WORLD<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

A sinner must become a Christian before the Holy Spirit can show what must be given up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.  Psalm 16:11<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

For the LORD God is a sun and shield: the LORD will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly.  Psalm 84:11<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Philip findeth Nathanael, and saith unto him, We have found him, of whom Moses in the law, and the prophets, did write, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph. 46<\/sup>And Nathanael said unto him, Can there any good thing come out of Nazareth? Don\u2019t be anxious<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Don\u2019t talk about the deep things<\/strong> of the Christian life.  It takes time for a believer to be ready for meat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jesus expects us to teach EVERYTHING He commanded us. How many commands is that?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Jesus\u2019 Commands to His People<\/h1>\n\n\n\n

Jesus expects His people to pass all of His commands on to others:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations<\/strong>, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you<\/strong>: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.  Matthew 28:18-20<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

We must know Jesus\u2019 commands to teach them.  We must also consent to all of His words:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If any man teach otherwise, and consent not<\/strong> to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ<\/strong>, and to the doctrine which is according to godliness; He is proud, knowing nothing, but doting about questions and strifes of words, whereof cometh envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings, Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw thyself.  I Timothy 6:3-5<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

We must obey His commands.  Setting an example of obedience is the best way to teach about His love:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If ye love me, keep my commandments.  John 14:15<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father’s commandments, and abide in his love.  John 15:10<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?  Luke 6:46<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

The Old Testament commanded Jews to love each other including non-Jews who lived among them:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thou shalt not avenge, nor bear any grudge against the children of thy people, but thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself<\/strong>: I am the LORD.  Leviticus 19:18<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

But the stranger that dwelleth with you shall be unto you as one born among you, and thou shalt love him as thyself<\/strong>; for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt: I am the LORD your God.  Leviticus 19:34<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

And let none of you imagine evil in your hearts against his neighbour;  Zachariah 8:17<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

The New Testament teaches that we who follow Christ must love each other.  How is that new?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A new commandment I give unto you<\/strong>, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.  John 13:34-35<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Is Jesus\u2019 command to love one another new because we\u2019re supposed to model our love on Christ\u2019s love for us which is different from God\u2019s love of the world?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you<\/strong>.  John 15:12<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

These things I command you, that ye love one another.  John 15:17<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Is it new because we must love far-away lost people enough to sacrifice time, talent, and treasure to \u201cteach all nations\u201d instead of just loving those who are nearby?  Or is it new because Jesus redefined love as He redefined adultery?  John reminds us that the command to love goes back to Leviticus:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For this is the message that ye heard from the beginning, that we should love one another.  I John 3:11<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

He also explains why Jesus\u2019 command to love is new:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Brethren, I write no new commandment unto you, but an old commandment which ye had from the beginning. The old commandment is the word which ye have heard from the beginning. Again, a new commandment I write unto you, which thing is true in him and in you: because the darkness is past, and the true light now shineth. He that saith he is in the light, and hateth his brother, is in darkness even until now.  I<\/strong> John 2:7-9<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

When we model our love of others on Christ\u2019s love for us, we cast darkness aside and walk in the light.  If we hate others, if we fail in love, we remain in darkness.  We must love others fervently enough to teach all nations whatsoever Jesus commanded us. The first step in obeying His commands is to know what they are.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rationale<\/h1>\n\n\n\n

Moses\u2019 law was given for good:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And now, Israel, what doth the LORD thy God require of thee, but to fear the LORD thy God, to walk in all his ways, and to love him, and to serve the LORD thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul, To keep the commandments of the LORD, and his statutes, which I command thee this day for thy good<\/strong>?  Deuteronomy 10:12-13<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

For generations, people had to obey God\u2019s laws purely by faith.  We now know that washing hands before meals, circumcision, cleaning mold out of our houses, and sweeping leaven and other crumbs out of houses in the spring when rats and mice are breeding give health benefits unto this day.  Even though Moses\u2019 law has no spiritual significance for Christians, we follow many parts of Moses\u2019 law because they\u2019re \u201cfor thy good.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hospital-acquired infections are a leading cause of death in modern nations and the largest cause of infections is medical staff not washing between patients.  Would doctors be more faithful if they thought washing was a command of a Holy God as opposed to mere scientific necessity?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The obvious benefits of the subset of the 613 Old Testament laws which we follow unto this day coupled with Jesus\u2019 command to teach all of His commands motivated this collection of New Testament commands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Methodology<\/h1>\n\n\n\n

The next sections list commands from each book of the New Testament.  It may not be complete and may include verses which aren\u2019t commands.  Please let me know of errors or omissions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The list does not include commands directed specifically to individuals or churches as in the book of Revelation, but includes commands in Revelation which direct to us to hear what the spirit says to the churches.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Each command is underlined.  For example, Matthew 5:44 has 4 underlinings because it gives 4 separate commands.  There are more than 970 underlinings including duplications.  For example, the phrase \u201clet him hear\u201d appears 16 times and \u201clove one another\u201d 12 times.  \u201cFollow me\u201d appears 18 times in the NT, but is not included when directed to specific individuals as in Matthew 4:19, 8:22, and 9:9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Very interesting point. Most christians nowadays hide behind the “Jesus died for our sins” dogma and leave off all the commandments which Jesus commanded to fulfill. As a fellow believer in the God of Abraham, I commend your faith.
