“A Command to Forget” –  <\/strong>The Baptist Bread<\/strong><\/a> <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the
things of old.” Isaiah 43:18<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Most of us older folks have a penchant for nostalgia.
There are a lot of things to be desired from the past, especially
in these fast-paced days we now live in. Who wants to hear
another cell phone ring during church? Not me!
In Isaiah 43, and in the verses preceding our thoughts today,
Israel is being freed from the bondage of Babylon, and God is
giving them another chance, a look at a brighter day (vs. 19).
Personally, I believe Isaiah is encouraging us to forget
about the negative energy drains that have sapped our spiritual
strength. Past sins, if confessed and asked forgiveness for,
have been granted forgiveness by God’s grace, and need to be
forgotten because they have been forgiven! Why would you
let your mind dredge up the past, thus allowing the enemy to
accuse you of what God has already forgotten? Satan is the
accuser of the brethren and the father of all lies and liars! Why
listen to him when you have God on your side? The Lord said
in Jeremiah 31:34b ” … for I will forgive their iniquity, and I
will remember their sin no more.”
The blessing of forgetfulness is an attribute to be
appreciated and appropriated by the grace of God in our lives.
The Lord spoke concerning Israel, and I believe it is valid for
us today, that ” … the former troubles are forgotten, … because
they are hid from mine eyes” (Isa. 65:16b). Glory to God!
