RAISING VIRTUOUS CHILDREN\u2014THREE TRUTHS<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here are three truths of utmost importance to parents who want to raise virtuous sons and daughters:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

ATMOSPHERE. Parents need to be very mindful and careful about the atmosphere their children are exposed to, within and without church. Answer the question, \u201cDoes this atmosphere lend itself to, or militate against, the instilling of spirituality and virtue into the life of my child, or is this atmosphere more likely to promote a wrong and <\/a>worldly spirit and lifestyle?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Churches can be particularly disarming and dangerous in terms of the subtle, and not so subtle, spirit of worldliness that noow predominates in so many of them. The worldly atmosphere of a church can effectually inoculate a young person against virtue as much, if not more, than any outside of church.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

ASSOCIATIONS: Parents need to be careful, and exercise control over their children’s associations. Benjamin Franklin wrote: \u201cHe that lieth down with dogs, getteth up with fleas.\u201d More importantly, God\u2019s Word warns that \u201cEvil companions corrupt good manners,\u201d and that, \u201cHe that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed\u201d (1 Cor. 15:33; Prov. 13:20), Be careful about your children’s associations in and out of church.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Proverbs 6:3 says \u201cmake sure thy friend.\u201d Parents who aim to rear virtuous children need to be proactive in terms of making sure of their friends. They must teach them the meaning and value of friendships, and to be discriminant in their choice of associations. (I have a book consisting of quotations topically arranged and sprinkled with my own commentary entitled Speaking of Friendship available at https:\/\/www.thatwemayknow.com\/store<\/a>). Parents could profit by reading and discussing portions of this with their children on a regular basis).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

AUTHORITY FIGURES. Parents must be especially careful about the authority figures their children are exposed to. This includes anyone and everyone in, or outside, a church or Christian circle. Parents must refuse to place their children under any influence that would militate against their goal of raising their children to be spiritually-minded, responsible, happy, virtuous men and women.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Parents need to be careful about the atmosphere their children are in, the associations they’re around and the authority figures they’re exposed to. Raising virtuous children who become virtuous adults, requires determination, courage and a commitment to Truth as it is found in the Bible. The reward however, will be \u201cexceeding abundantly above\u201d anything any parent could ask or think (Eph. 3:20). See Ps. 127, 128; 144:11, 12; Eph. 6:4.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
