WHICH RELIGION SHOULD BE? WOULD IT BE FAIR?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

AND HOW IT WOULD BE DANGEROUS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I respect faith.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

America was built with people who believed in God. Churches helped build communities. Black churches especially helped carry us through slavery, Jim Crow, and civil rights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But here\u2019s a serious question:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

IF A RELIGION WERE TO RUN THE GOVERNMENT IN THE USA<\/p>\n\n\n\n

WHICH RELIGION SHOULD BE?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If we make America a \u201cChristian nation\u201d in law \u2014 whose Christianity are we talking about?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The United States is home to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 Christians<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 Muslims<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 Jews<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 Hindus<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 Buddhists<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 Sikhs<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 Atheists<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 Agnostics<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 Traditional African spiritual practitioners<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 Native American spiritual traditions<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 And millions who are spiritual but not religious<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now let\u2019s talk about Christianity alone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In America we have:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 Baptist<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 Catholic<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 Pentecostal<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 Methodist<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 Presbyterian<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 Lutheran<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 Episcopal<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 Church of God in Christ<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 Seventh-day Adventist<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 Mormon (LDS)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 Non-denominational<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 Orthodox<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And even inside Baptist churches, beliefs can differ.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So if religion runs government:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Which denomination writes the laws?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Do we teach Catholic doctrine in public schools?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Or Baptist?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Or Pentecostal?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Or Mormon?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Or Muslim?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Or Jewish law?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Do we mandate school prayer?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If so \u2014 whose prayer?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What Bible interpretation becomes law?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Literal?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Symbolic?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

King James only?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Different translations?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What happens to a Muslim child in a majority-Christian school system?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What happens to a Christian family in a region dominated by another doctrine?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What happens to someone who doesn\u2019t believe at all?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The U.S. Constitution separates church and state for a reason.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Not to remove God from your life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But to prevent government from controlling faith \u2014 or one faith controlling everyone else.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When government enforces religion:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 Minority beliefs get pushed aside.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 Civil rights can shrink.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 Laws become theological instead of constitutional.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2022 Political power starts deciding spiritual truth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That\u2019s confusing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And it can become dangerous.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Because once government chooses a \u201ctrue\u201d religion,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

every other belief becomes second class.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Faith should be personal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Church should be voluntary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Worship should be free.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Government\u2019s job is to protect rights \u2014<\/p>\n\n\n\n

not define God.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

America works because you can pray freely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And your neighbor can pray differently.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And neither of you go to jail for it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That\u2019s not anti-God.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That\u2019s freedom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
