“The Sheath Of The Sword’s Letter”
“Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think any thing as of ourselves; but our sufficiency is of God; Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life.” II Corinthians 3:5-6 <\/strong>
Mercy must be harnessed with truth, or it will become liberalism. Truth must be seasoned with mercy, or it will become Pharisaism and a repellent, instead of an attractant to people. Maybe you’ve been a compromiser, with mercy and not enough truth. Maybe you’ve been a Pharisee. You’ve had all truth and no mercy. Maybe you haven’t been either. If you’re going to get the chemistry right so that you can have the results God wants you to have, then you must unite mercy and truth together. By themselves they are harmful. Together they are good. Mercy alone is poison, just like sodium. Truth alone is poison, just like chloride. But when you take the sodium and the chloride and put them together, salt is good! It’s no longer poison once the two elements are united. You and I need truth, but we also need mercy. We need standards, but we need some tolerance so we’re not so harsh and mean. We need to take a right stand, but we need to do it with merciful, kind treatment of people. We need to deal with issues, and not kill the people involved.
