Then said he unto the disciples, It is impossible but that offences will come: but woe [unto him], through whom they come!2 It were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he cast into the sea, than that he should offend one of these little ones.On the trail on the other side of the buildings among some implements is a millstone- After having looked at the little gallery in the bottom of the Barbi college that showed just a handful of the Martyrs and been through the church in the cave (we will look at this tomorrow) I saw this millstone and this verse came to my head. To look at the history of the Waldenses is a history of horrendous persecution almost beyond belief. Their persecutors would have been far better off with a millstone than the fate that would await them in the judgement of God for their crimes.We step out of chronological order that the trail is in to look at a gallery that highlights the persecution suffered by them in the basement of the college of the Barbas. Perhaps it is fitting to house this little gallery in the place where the animals were housed for it shows men acting worse that any vicious brute beasts. The atrocities that were committed against the Waldensians by the Roman Catholic “church” and the governments controlled by it are beyond fathoming. They would face over 32 persecutions throughout their history. These are taken from a book written after massacres that occurred in 1655 (Commonly called the Piedmontese Easter) by Sir Samuel Moreland. A link for the book will be at the end. The Duke of Savoy’s troops encouraged by the Council of Propagation of the Faith and the Extermination of Heresy (Concilium Novum de Propaganda Fide et Extirpandis Haereticis) would commit these horrible acts.Reading some of these I was reduced to tears. These were the actions of demonic vile men beyond the depths of Hell. I can not really describe totally here some of the unprintable atrocities that were committed upon these innocent people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Esaia Garsino- an old man of 90 had his body cut and hacked into small pieces and his head cut off<\/li>
  2. Daniel Salvagaiol, his wife and others had gun powder shoved into their mouths and lit<\/li>
  3. Anna the daughter of Giovanni Charboniere of Letorre was horribly impaled alive on a pole and carried about as an ensign<\/li>
  4. Several aged women above 80 and 90 years old were burnt alive.<\/li>
  5. The 10 year old daughter of Moyses Long was roasted alive and the soldiers later boasted of trying to eat her.<\/li>
  6. Giovanna Michialin taken prisoner had three of his children killed before his eyes.<\/li>
  7. A servant known as Bobio was horrible tortured repeatedly beyond imagination until he was dragged behind a horse and died.<\/li>
  8. Eleven men were forced to throw one another into the furnace<\/li>
  9. Paolo Garnier had his eyes pulled out and was mutilated and exposed to public view then was flayed alive.<\/li>
  10. Giovanni Pelanchion was taken prisoner, escaped and was recaptured. The soldiers tied up one of his legs to a mule and dragged him through the streets beating as they went. This being insufficient to these beasts they mutilated him and then beheaded him.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n
