The feminist\nmovement has had a very powerful influence on<\/p>\n\n\n\n

modern society\nand on the churches.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It began in\nthe second half of the 19th century with the push for<\/p>\n\n\n\n

women\u2019s\nsuffrage, political equality (an equal voice and place for<\/p>\n\n\n\n

women in\npolitics), workplace equality (equal pay for equal work),<\/p>\n\n\n\n

and female\neducation. The first gathering devoted to women\u2019s<\/p>\n\n\n\n

rights was in\n1848 with about 100 people in attendance. It was led<\/p>\n\n\n\n

by Elizabeth Cady\nStanton and Lucretia Mott. Full voting rights<\/p>\n\n\n\n

were granted\nto women in America in 1920.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

By the early\n20th century, the feminist movement was pushing<\/p>\n\n\n\n

for\n\u201creproductive rights,\u201d which refers to birth control and<\/p>\n\n\n\n

abortion. Many\n19th century feminist leaders were opposed to<\/p>\n\n\n\n

abortion, but\nby the 20th century, feminism was at the forefront of<\/p>\n\n\n\n

the abortion\nrights movement which has resulted in the<\/p>\n\n\n\n

destruction of\nmillions upon millions of unborn children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The feminist\nmovement has become ever more radical. It has<\/p>\n\n\n\n

pushed for\n\u201cnon-sexist\u201d or \u201cgender neutral\u201d language (e.g.,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

chairman\nbecomes chairperson). It has often been an opponent of<\/p>\n\n\n\n

457\ntraditional marriage and has been at the forefront of\nhomosexual<\/p>\n\n\n\n

rights. It has\nreconstituted goddess theology. Pressure for<\/p>\n\n\n\n

accommodation\nof women in all positions, has resulted in the<\/p>\n\n\n\n

lowering of\nphysical standards for police, firefighters, and the<\/p>\n\n\n\n

military. Feminism\ncreated the unisex movement and paved the way for<\/p>\n\n\n\n

homosexual\nrights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The feminist\nmovement has had an influence in Bible-believing<\/p>\n\n\n\n

churches\nbecause so many professing Christian women are more<\/p>\n\n\n\n

influenced by\nfeminist thinking than by the Bible. They consider<\/p>\n\n\n\n

feminine\ncharacteristics such as \u201ca meek and quiet spirit\u201d (1 Pe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3:4) and\nmodesty, shamefacedness, and sobriety (1 Ti. 2:9) to be<\/p>\n\n\n\n

outdated. As\nDon Boys points out, \u201cFor us to suggest that women<\/p>\n\n\n\n

be modest in\napparel, attitude, and actions as Paul commanded is<\/p>\n\n\n\n

almost quaint.\nMoreover, not only do feminists go ballistic but also<\/p>\n\n\n\n

many closet\nfeminists in our churches are quick to demand the<\/p>\n\n\n\n

right to wear\nwhatever they choose, even if the Apostle Paul or<\/p>\n\n\n\n

their husbands\ndisagree\u201d (\u201cMegyn Kelly, Whatever Happened to<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Modesty?\u201d\ndonboys.cstnews. com, Nov. 17, 2016).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Christian\nmothers aren\u2019t content to be keepers at home (Titus<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2:5). They\nresist the Bible\u2019s command that the wife submit herself<\/p>\n\n\n\n

to her husband\nas unto the Lord. The Scripture\u2019s command that a<\/p>\n\n\n\n

woman not\nteach or usurp authority over the man is thought to be<\/p>\n\n\n\n

outdated (1\nTi. 2:12). They want an equal voice with the men in<\/p>\n\n\n\n

church\naffairs. They want their daughters to \u201cfollow their hearts,\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

even if that\nmeans playing male-dominated sports or pursuing<\/p>\n\n\n\n

something like\na career in the infantry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They bob their\nhair and wear pants (as a product of the<\/p>\n\n\n\n

feminist-influenced\nunisex fashion movement), and woe be to that<\/p>\n\n\n\n

preacher who\ntries to reprove them. It has been a long time since a<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Baptist\npreacher published a book by the title of Bobbed Hair,<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bossy\nWives, and Women Preachers<\/em>! (That was the title of a 1941<\/p>\n\n\n\n

pamphlet by\nEvangelist John R. Rice.)  Rice wrote,\n\u201cThe pulpit is a <\/p>\n\n\n\n

place for the\nstrongest men that we have. The preacher in the pulpit <\/p>\n\n\n\n

should speak\nwith an authority that is absolutely forbidden a woman to exercise.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Where are\nthose strong men today?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\nfeminization effect has resulted in a softening of the<\/p>\n\n\n\n

preaching and\nthe militant stance of the church. God is a \u201cman of <\/p>\n\n\n\n

war,\u201d but very\nfew preachers are. Christ took on the Pharisees and<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sadducees, and\nPaul took on every heretic that raised his head, but<\/p>\n\n\n\n

such zeal is\nforeign to most so-called preachers. Martin Luther<\/p>\n\n\n\n

took on Rome\nand called the pope the antichrist and called the<\/p>\n\n\n\n

pope\u2019s bull\n\u201call impiety, blasphemy, ignorance, impudence,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

hypocrisy,\nlying.\u201d Charles Spurgeon took on the Baptist Union and<\/p>\n\n\n\n

railed against\n\u201csoft manners and squeamish words\u201d in the pulpit,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

calling for\n\u201cdinging our pulpits into blads\u201d [smashing them with<\/p>\n\n\n\n

forceful\npreaching]. Gilbert Tennent took on the Presbyterians of<\/p>\n\n\n\n

his day,\nlifting his voice in 1740 in the midst of a synod (a regional<\/p>\n\n\n\n

governing\nbody) to warn that many preachers were unregenerate<\/p>\n\n\n\n

and calling\nthem \u201crotten-hearted hypocrites, and utter strangers to<\/p>\n\n\n\n

the saving\nknowledge of God and of their own hearts\u201d (Joseph<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tracy, The\nGreat Awakening<\/em>, 1842).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This type of\nboldness is entirely unknown among convention<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Baptists, and\nit is exceedingly rare among fundamental Baptists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The protest\nhas long gone out of Protestants, and the<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cfundamentalism\u201d\nhas largely gone out of fundamentalists.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I am convinced\nthat the feminization of society has resulted in a<\/p>\n\n\n\n

weakening of\neven the best churches and a rapidly growing deemphasis<\/p>\n\n\n\n

on biblical\nmilitancy (being a soldier in Christ\u2019s army).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\nfeminization of the churches can even be seen in a softening<\/p>\n\n\n\n

of the hymns.\nThere is less forthrightness in the lyrics and less<\/p>\n\n\n\n

military boldness in the music.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
