The Church hasn\u2019t helped any in upholding the sanctity of marriage. In a large church near us, the couple who ran the premarital counseling for over 35 years, told us that when they began this ministry, none of the young couples in the church that they mentored were fornicating (living) together. Now, almost all of them are. The few who aren\u2019t are a breath of fresh air.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Living together is nothing like marriage. It\u2019s not \u201ctest driving\u201d to see if the couple is compatible. I have a secret for these couples. No couple is compatible. We\u2019re all far from perfect. One is male, and the other one is female. This alone shows how different we are, contrary to popular opinion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The foundation of marriage is commitment. Without commitment, marriages fail. Before we married, we made the commitment to never use the word divorce. We never have, and we\u2019re going on 41 years together. We both knew that marriage was until death do us part. We didn\u2019t take our marriage vows lightly. It was a scary day for me, because I knew this. It wasn\u2019t easy to commit my life to another until death! Most couples probably now go into marriage thinking they can get out if they want. We never thought this. We knew marriage and love were about commitment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Marriage is the picture of Christ and His Church. Christ is fully committed to His Church. As you are committed to your husband for life, you are being an example to a watching world what marriage is actually about. There are too many divorces in the Christian community. The commitment isn\u2019t there, and this has led young people to be lost and floundering. It\u2019s also led to marriage being redefined by culture which leads to destruction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Your children need you and your husband to make a commitment until death. You are their security in this world. Do everything in your power to hold your marriage together. Be the wife that God has called you to be. No longer dwell upon the negative traits of your husband. \u201cShe openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness\u201d (Proverbs 31:26). \u201cLet your speech be always with grace, seasoned with salt\u201d (Colossians 4:6). Take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ. Dwell on the good and the lovely. Don\u2019t tear your husband down in your thoughts, deeds, or words. Build him up instead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Marriage is good. It was created by God. We, as believers in Jesus Christ, need to keep obeying God because His ways are perfect.
