Baptist History, Heritage and\nDistinctives \u2013 Historic & Scriptural Baptist Position Concerning the\nKingdom of God<\/p>\n\n\n\n

PART THREE<\/p>\n\n\n\n

 There\nare three aspects to the Kingdom of God<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

When we\nunderstand the kingdom of God, we must understand the three aspects of it.\nScriptural references are obvious to which aspect being spoken of according to\ncontext. There is the present<\/em> aspect,\nthe coming<\/em> aspect of the Millennial\nKingdom in its fullness, and finally, the aspect of the time following the Millennial<\/em> where all will\nbe concluded unto the Father with a new\nearth and new heaven.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

   The\nPresent Kingdom<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The\nKingdom of God was prophesied and understood to begin with the (first) coming\nof the Messiah. The first mention was in Genesis\n49:10<\/strong> \u201cThe scepter shall not depart\nfrom Judah, nor the lawgiver from between his feet, until Shiloh come: ..\u201d <\/strong>The\nscepter is the symbol of the kings. This scepter would not depart from Judah\nuntil Shiloh come. There has been no king in Judah since the Lord came. This is\none of many Scriptures that reveal that the Lord\u2019s kingdom was set up in his\nearthly ministry. It is in effect now, awaiting its fullness when He returns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This truth\nwas also laid down clearly in Daniel 2, when the prophet Daniel explained the\ndream of Nebuchadnezzar. There were five kingdoms that were illustrated by the\nparts of the image of gold, silver, brass, iron and clay. Daniel 2:44 <\/strong>says: \u201cAnd in\nthe days of these kings shall God of heaven set up a kingdom, which shall never\nbe destroyed: and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, but it shall\nbreak in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand for ever.\u201d<\/strong>\nIt is clear in this passage that the God of heaven will set up a kingdom in the days of<\/em> these kings; NOT\nsometime after they are gone. Those kingdoms were defined in the text as\nPersia, Media, Greece, Rome and a residue with Rome. The kingdom of heaven\nwould be set up while one of these is in power. As we know, the Lord came in\nthe days of Rome. The text goes on to say in Daniel 2:45: \u201cForasmuch as thou sawest that the stone was cut\nout of the mountain without hands, and that it brake in pieces the iron, the\nbrass, the clay, the silver, and the gold; the great God hath made known to the\nking what shall come to pass hereafter: and the dream is certain, and the\ninterpretation thereof sure.\u201d<\/strong> That stone that was cut out without hands was\nthe rock of Himself, on which the Lord Jesus Christ built His church. (MT 16:18<\/strong>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
