April 18 at 8:57 PM<\/strong><\/a>  \u00b7 I know some preachers will probably say, \u201cDon\u2019t use the word \u2018doctrine.\u2019 People are turned off by doctrine.\u201d To those preachers doctrine and theology are unimportant. They want to give sermons on man\u2019s needs, rather than doctrine. So we don\u2019t hear very many sermons on the doctrine of soteriology, or on the doctrine of predestination, or the doctrine of reprobation, or the doctrine of demonology, or the doctrine of ecclesiology, or any other theological doctrine. Most sermons today have thus become man-centered rather than God-centered and theology-centered…..most preachers today start out thinking about man\u2019s needs \u2013 instead of thinking about the doctrines and theological truths in the Scriptures. Here are some modern sermon titles that illustrate this \u201cman-centered\u201d approach to preaching. These are actual titles: \u201cTaking Responsibility for Your Life,\u201d \u201cStaying in Love,\u201d \u201cCure for the Common Life,\u201d \u201cGod Thinks You\u2019re Wonderful,\u201d \u201cSo Long, Insecurity,\u201d \u201cBalanced Living,\u201d \u201cStart Losing, Start Living,\u201d \u201cBecoming a Better You,\u201d \u201cLive Your Best Life Now,\u201d \u201cDiscovering Your Identity,\u201d \u201cManaging Your Moods.\u201d And here\u2019s one that says it all, \u201cLaugh Your Way to a Better Marriage.\u201d I\u2019m not saying that there isn\u2019t anything helpful in these messages. There probably is. I\u2019m saying that the very titles show how man\u2019s needs, rather than Bible doctrines and Bible theology, are at the center of most sermons today. – R. L. The “worship” is “blended” for people. It’s a church growth technique. It mentions how he wants to challenge gender stereotypes, especially in clothing. Its the same thing the anti-Bible feminists have done from the 1850’s onward. They challenged gender stereotypes as well and were quite successful after a few decades. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
