“Children Welcome”
“But when Jesus saw it, he was much displeased, and said
unto them, Suffer the little children to come unto me, and
forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God.
Mark 10:14
When a person is drowning, we don’t debate about how to
rescue them. Action must be taken, and the person must be
rescued by any means possible! The disciples were not a
bunch of children monopolizing Jesus’ time. In fact, when
parents brought their children to Christ, the disciples were
upset and turned them and their parents away with unkind
words.
Jesus, on the other hand, wanted the children to come to
Him. We should want them as well! Children are inundated
with the worldliness of the present day. We have manyopportunities in our churches for young people, but
sometimes it seems we are missing the mark. Where is the
“retention” of families and children in churches? Are children
growing into young adults who love the Lord, the Lord’s work
and the Lord’s people? Where are the young men and women
who grew up in our churches? We can always do more to
bring children to Christ and teach them to stay at His feet. The
Lord was displeased with the disciples. I wonder how pleased
our Lord is with our efforts toward children and their parents.
It pleases the Lord to bring the children to Him.
The disciples discouraged it, but we have a command
from Christ to reach children with the Gospel, and to see them
grow in the Lord. In fact, it is our obligation to bring them to
Him! -S.H.
