The only time the word “stript” appears in the King James Bible. Why is it spelled that way? Why is it not spelled “stripped”? After all, the word “stripped” is in the Bible 12 times. Why should this one word in Genesis 37:23 be different from the others? Pondering this brought me back to my days of being a Document Control Specialist in Dallas, Texas.My job was to ensure that the documents, records and work specifications of the company were accurate, maintained and approved by the authorized personnel. Not only did the general information contained in these documents need to be accurate, but the spelling of every word in the documents needed to be correct as well. This job required attention to detail.There are few things worse than a surprise audit from the FDA, in which they inspect a document that is found to have multiple spelling errors. Ouch!How unprofessional! Spelling matters. In matters in the workforce. And it certainly does not matter any less when it comes to the Word of God. In fact, we could certainly contend that it matters even more!The word “stript” in Genesis 37:23 is a verb. According to the Oxford English Dictionary, there are two definitions of “stript” when it is used as a verb. Stript, variant of strip: To denude (a thing) of its covering, esp. (a tree) of its bark, (a seed) of its skin, (a fruit) of its rind.Stript, variant of stripe: To ornament (cloth, a garment) with narrow pieces of material or with stripes of colour. This word, as it is used in Genesis 37:23, seems to be a combination of both of these definitions. Joseph’s brethren were taking off a covering, which is consistent with the first definition listed. But notice that the second definition listed is a variant of the word “stripe”. And it has to do with narrow pieces of material of stripes of colour. The Bible description of Joseph’s coat is that it was a “coat of many colours.” This was certainly made from more than one piece of material. It was made from many, narrow pieces of material. This would form stripes.So when Joseph’s brethren took off his coat, they were taking off something that had stripes on it. According to a King James Bible, when you strip off something that has stripes, it has not been stripped, it has been stript. God gave the King James translators the wisdom to understand this. The chances are pretty good that they knew grammar and language better than any Document Control Specialist or any scholar alive today. And they chose to use the word “stript” here.If a business or a government agency goes to such great lengths to pay attention to detail in record keeping, how much more is our God capable of giving us a record in which every detail is exactly the way he wants it to be? The Holy Ghost is satisfied with the interpretation of this word, and since he is, Ishould be too.It’s interesting to note in Matthew 27:28, Jesus was “stripped” of His raiment. He was not “stript”. What does that tell us? His clothing did not have stripes. It wasn’t bright and flashy or designed to get attention. It was common, plain clothing. Does that not fit the description given of the Saviour in Isaiah 53:2? “For he shall grow up before him as a tender plant, and as a root out of a dry ground: he hath no form nor comeliness; and when we shall see him, there is no beauty that we should desire him.”I believe the King James Bible is perfect, not just in its doctrine, and not just in its words, but in its spelling of those words too. I did not begin to notice little nuances of spelling in the Bible, until I believed that it was indeed, a perfect Book. And once I saw nuances in spelling, I realized we can learn doctrinenot only from the words of a King James Bible, but also from how those words are spelled. Only God could write such a Book. Nathaniel’s first words to Jesus Christ upon hearing him were, Whence knowest thou me?, John 1:48. He had just walked up to a man who his friend suspected was the long awaited Messiah and that man showed him that he could read Nathaniel’s inward parts; Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him, and saith of him, Behold an Israelite indeed, in whom is no guile!, John 1:47.To know those two things about Nathaniel, Jesus Christ would have needed to judge his inward processes by two different passages. Psalm 32:2 Blessed is the man unto whom the LORD imputeth not iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no guile. Romans 9:6 Not as though the word of God hath taken none effect. For they are not all Israel, which are of Israel:Romans 9:7 Neither, because they are the seed of Abraham, are they all children: but, In Isaac shall thy seed be called.Romans 9:8 That is, They which are the children of the flesh, these are not the children of God: but the children of the promise are counted for the seed. Jesus Christ knew that there was no guile in Nathaniel’s spirit, and he knew that he was an Israelite, not through DNA, but according to the promise. He knew that because he is God. Then hear thou from heaven thy dwelling place, and forgive, and render unto every man according unto all his ways, whose heart thou knowest; (for thou only knowest the hearts of the children of men:), 2nd Chronicles 6:30.There could be no doubt that Jesus Christ could read the hearts of men. But when Jesus perceived their thoughts, he answering said unto them, What reason ye in your hearts?, Luke 5:22. The proof text for the deity of Jesus Christ could stand on this verse alone. Only God can read hearts and Jesus Christ could read hearts.It wasn’t Nathaniel’s outward garb that showed him to be of the true Israel. It wasn’t a bumper sticker or clever ornament proclaiming his love for the things of God. It was his inward processes showing the work of God that tipped off Jesus Christ; for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart, 1st Samuel 16:7.That brings us to Hebrews 4:12, For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. True scripture can do exactly what God can do, it can discern the heart. Herein is the great proof of the King James Bible. There is simply no attribute of scripture identified in the bible to which the King James Bible does not conform. The other versions cannot do that. If you don’t believe that, just read their prefaces. They are quick to admit flaws. Their center columns are filled with doubts of their translators.I remember my years with the other versions. I remember bible studies in which some wimpy guy would read a verse and make a comment and some girl would say, “that is so true”. I’m not saying that we didn’t learn things about ourselves, I’m merely pointing out that those revelations were no more powerful nor insightful than a good Victorian poet could have written or a self-help book.What the King James Bible did for me was to reach into the deepest recesses of my heart and mind and expose them to me as God saw them. I squirmed and I sorrowed as never before. Yet, in the revelations to me of my inward sin and folly was imparted to me hope through that same scripture. There simply is no other English Bible with that same power and effectiveness.No other proof is needed. I rejoice in the many men and women who have contributed mightily to the research available today to support our intellects in understanding what our hearts are telling us. The King James Bible is the scripture promised to us in the scriptures. No amount of proofs in history or translation ever seem to convince the gainsayers. A person must subject themselves to the King James Bible to ever be convinced by it.Most of those who oppose us are men and women who have no intention of ever submitting themselves to anything other than their own concept of Jesus. They have a concept of Jesus Christ that is anywhere from 50% to 99.99% accurate and pure. Those of us who trust solely in our King James Bible have what they can never have. We have a perfect concept and revelation of a perfect Christ.
