“The Christian’s Authority”
” … there come to him the chief priests, and the scribes, and
the elders, And say unto him, By what authority doest thou
these things? and who gave thee this authority to do these
things?’ Mark 11:27-28
“For though I should boast somewhat more of our
authority, which the Lord hath given us for edification … “
II Corinthians 10:8
Whenever one is busy and active for God, he will often
face opposition from the world and from the religious crowd,
attacking his authority. In our text, Christ was not attacked for
His actions, because His actions were impeccable. Christ was
not attacked for His words, because He spoke truth. Christ
was not attacked for His person, because His person was God
in the flesh. The only thing the religious crowd could attempt
to attack was His authority, by which He acted and spoke.
The Christian’s authority will likewise be under attack by
the lost world or by religionists, whenever one is busy serving
the Lord. What gives a preacher authority to boldly preach
against sin and toward repentance? What gives the Christian
the authority to bravely share the Gospel with friends, family
and others? The Apostle Paul endured such attacks against his
authority, however his authority came from God!
It is the Lord’s command to go into all the world. It is the
sure Word of God that gives us that authority. It is the Holy
Spirit who gives us the authority to be sanctified and meet for
the Master’s use. Now is the time for Christians to be bold in
their witness, preaching and holy living. – D.H.
