THE BIBLE VIEW In This Issue: Unbiblical Beliefs – The Christian’s Ruby Ring – Just As I Am Only Jesus Can Save! – No Promise of Tomorrow Volume: 752 April 4, 2020 Unbiblical Beliefs by Bill Brinkworth

After speaking to many people about how the Bible tells us we can go to Heaven, I have heard many beliefs that are not found in the Bible. They are not what God has revealed to man. Some of them include: “There is more than one way to get to Heaven,” and “There are many different roads to Heaven.” Those philosophies are never mentioned in the Word of God. The point of the Bible is to state and preserve God’s plans and commands for all mankind. Even suggesting that man can believe and do what he wants to get to Heaven is contrary to the Bible’s teachings. It is man’s way that got him in the sinful state he is in. Only God’s Way is the way to salvation. It is God’s Heaven, and there is only one way to get there — His! “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” John 14:6 Also: John 10:9, John 11:25. “We are all children of God!” If that philosophy were true, and we were all children of God, why is there a Hell, and why were we warned about it so we would not go there? Also, why did Christ die for us, if all are going to Heaven? The truth is, no one is a child of God unless he is born into God’s family by a spiritual birth. “Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” John 3:3 Also: John 3:5. “We’ll see so-and-so in Heaven.” When discussing the whereabouts of a deceased person, many assume that the person is in Heaven without knowing anything about his spiritual decisions and condition when alive. Quite frequently at funerals, it is mentioned, possibly so people’s feelings will not be hurt, that the dead person is in Heaven. They say that without knowing if the person made any profession or ever indicated that he was trusting Christ as Saviour. They very well may have been saved and therefore in Heaven, but the way so many talk all are going to Heaven and only the “really bad people” are going to Hell. That sounds humane and nice, but it is God’s Heaven and not man’s, and God says only those that do what He commands will go to His Heaven. It is only His way that matters. That way is trusting in Christ’s shed blood to cover one’s sins and admitting (confessing) Christ as Saviour (Rom. 10:9). One will only go to Heaven if he is saved! —2— “And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.” Mat. 7:23 Also: Mat. 25:12, Mat. 25:41, Luke 13:25, II Tim. 2:19. “I’m a good person, so I’ll go to Heaven.” The Bible does not teach that either. It teaches the opposite. The Bible says all are sinners because of being born into sin and our commission of iniquities. Because of our sins, we cannot go to Heaven, unless we do what God says we must do to get there, and that is to be saved. No one is a “good” person in God’s eyes. “As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:” Rom. 3:10 “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;” Rom. 3:23 Also: Rom. 5:12. “If God is going to put people in Hell, then I don’t want to have any part of Him or Heaven.” That statement immediately condemns the person as one who does not see the seriousness of where he is heading eternally. He is rejecting God’s plan of salvation. “And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.” Acts 2:21 Also: John 3:18, I Cor. 1:18. God does not want anyone to perish in Hell (II Peter 3:9). He has clearly shown in His preserved Word the only way anyone can go to Heaven. It is His way that will get anyone there, not man’s way. That way is by trusting that Jesus’ death on the cross is the payment God will accept for anyone’s sin. That belief is the only one that will get anyone to Heaven! “Our road has a hopeless end, unless we follow an endless hope.” — Author Unknown The Christian’s Ruby Ring C. H. Spurgeon A king once gave a ring to his favorite, and said to him, “I know that the council tomorrow will charge you of heresy. When you are brought to them, answer them if you will, but you need not have any fear. If you are accused, simply show them the ring I have given you, and they will let you go.” It is even so with us that are born-again. The Lord has given us the precious blood of Christ to be like that ruby ring. No matter how our conscience torments us or how far accusations from Satan may plead against us, we have only to remember God’s promise that clears us from all our guilt: “He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.” John 3:18 Just As I Am Edited from an article by D. Pentecost A London artist hired a dirty, wretched beggar to come to his studio so that he might paint the man’s want and woe. The painter was disappointed to have the man appear with face washed, hair combed, and store clothes put on. “I don’t want you that way. I want that beggar I saw in filth and squalor.” —3— Many a sinner feels that, before he comes to Jesus, he will fix up a little, improve his condition, and borrow the second-hand garments of empty righteousness instead of coming just as he is, and let Jesus change him. Only Jesus Can Save! Author Unknown Martin Luther saw, in one of the Romish churches, a picture of the Pope, cardinals, bishops, priests, monks, and friars on board a ship. They were all safe, every one of them. As for the laity, poor wretches, they were struggling in the sea, and many of them drowning. Only those were saved to whom the “good” men on the ship were so kind as to hand out a rope or a plank. That is not our Lord’s teaching. Jesus’ blood was shed for all, and not for the few. He is not the Christ of a caste, class, or a religious position, but the Christ of all conditions of men. He will save all who ask and trust His payment for all our sins. “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” John 14:6 “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” Romans 10:13 No Promise of Tomorrow Bill Brinkworth “Boast not thyself of to morrow; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth.” Proverbs 27:1 Although Proverbs 27 is chock-full of life-directing wisdom, verse one should remind each one of us that our time on this Earth is not forever. Our life could end before the sun sets today. No one knows how much time they have left. No one has the promise of tomorrow! While we do have the time, do not procrastinate. Do not put off: • Being saved. Although many put off being born-again (John 3:3), they may not have tomorrow to do so. Not only may one’s opportunity to have God’s promise of an eternity with Him be soon ended, but each time salvation is put off one’s heart hardens and becomes more defiant to God’s calling. One may have another day, but after having ignored the pleas of the Holy Spirit so often, He may no longer speak to one about securing their eternity (Romans 10:9) in Heaven. Each time one says “No” to the Spirit of God’s prodding by not obeying His commandments, one’s sensitivity to God’s calling is lessened. “Again, he limiteth a certain day, saying in David, To day, after so long a time; as it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts.” Hebrews 4:7 “And after certain days, when Felix came with his wife Drusilla, which was a Jewess, he sent for Paul, and heard him concerning the faith in Christ. 25 And as he reasoned of righteousness, temperance, and judgment to come, Felix trembled, and answered, Go thy way for this time; when I have a convenient season, I will call for thee.” Acts 24:24-25 —4— • Halting the sin(s) you have been convicted of doing. When a person is saved, the Holy Spirit reminds one of sin(s) that is/are prohibiting one’s spiritual growth. Putting off iniquity one was made aware of should be dealt with immediately. What if the rapture (I Thes. 4:16-18) or death takes one home before the “convenient time” to obey the Lord occurs? It would be too late. Obey the Lord now while there still is an opportunity. • Doing what the Lord laid on your heart to do. Has the Lord urged you to rebuild a broken relationship, get involved in a ministry, read your Bible, be faithful in church, make your testimony more godly, or something else? Do it now, as again, you may not have another chance to do it. • Being the Christian, spouse, parent, or child, God would have you be. You may never have another opportunity if you put it off any longer. Most of us have had many days. We assume we will have more time, but we may not. This may be the last reminder one may have to obey what God has laid on their heart to do. Do it now, as no one knows how much more time they have left. “A young woman turned aside a friend’s appeal of being saved by saying, “I only want time enough when I die to say two words to the Lord, ‘Save me.” Having neglected her soul’s salvation, she was suddenly called away by death, but the only two words she did utter was the wail of despair, “Too late! Too late!” — Author Unknown
