“One On One With Jesus”

“There cometh a woman of Samaria to draw water: Jesus saith unto her, Give me to drink ” John 4: 7 This earthly encounter surely had heavenly ramifications. Initially, no Jewish man would ever think of sitting on Jacob’s well at that hour of the day. Compounding the conundrum, the woman would face a man who had no bucket! (vs. 11). Further consternation clouded the conversation as Jews did not even talk to Samaritans. As the two individuals continued their talk, her estimation of Him increased from Samaritan or racial prejudice (vs. 9), to limited respect—she called him Sir (vss. 11 & 15), then, she made the leap of faith to regarding Jesus as a prophet (vs. 19) and culminated or climaxed in reverencing Him as the Messiah (vss. 25-26). When the disciples came upon this unlikely couple communicating, their questions were coupled with incredulity! (vs. 27). She then rejoiced that she had found Him (vs. 29), but in all reality He had found her in the marketplace of sin, where she had so iniquitously resided. Oh, and that is where you may now be living if not saved and where you came from if you have been redeemed by His precious blood and faith in Christ. By the way, He never revealed what she was to others—He knew and He concealed it from all but the woman—and she had to face it! Proverbs 28:13 reveals this truth; if we conceal sin it will be revealed, but, if we confess it God will cover it beneath the cleansing wave of Christ’s blood. Sounds like to me it’s best to repent and quit it, instead of continuing to do it and regret it! — T.G.
