“We Ought To Repent” “The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.” II Peter 3:9 Repentance results in forsaking sin. When Paul gave his testimony to King Agrippa in Acts 26, he said this: ” …0 King Agrippa, I was not disobedient unto the heavenly vision: ” Paul had truly repented of sin and surrendered his life to the will of God. Verse 20 says: “But shewed first unto them of Damascus, and at Jerusalem, and throughout all the coasts of Judaea, and then to the Gentiles, that they should repent and turn to God, and do works meet for repentance.” True repentance will make the vile sinner an honest individual. Zacchaeus was an extortioner but when he met Jesus and repented of his sin, he offered to pay four-fold anything taken by false accusation. I knew a man who, by his own testimony, was a common thief. He stole from anyone, any time the opportunity presented itself. While in the armed forces in the South Pacific, during World War II, he fell under conviction, repented and was converted to Christ. When the war was over and he returned home, he spent weeks finding people he had stolen from and repaid much more than he had taken. That man had an obvious joy in his heart that was expressed by the radiance on his smiling face. His effort in restitution proved he had repented of his sins. — K.M.
