The Holy Ghost And Holiness II Peter 1:3
“The Holy Ghost And Holiness” “
According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that called us to glory and virtue. ” II Peter 1:3
There is none, save the Holy Ghost, that can make one holy. In our verse this is worded as ” … his divine power … This divine power deals with the saved sinner, the born-again, redeemed child of God, concerning all the things that matter in life: godliness, knowledge of Him, glory and virtue. You know, the stuff, the characteristics, the spiritual values that really matter in a Christian’s life. Sports, career, prosperity, etc ., fade far into the distance when compared to these gifts that are given by the Holy Ghost. Some saved people seem to have a hard time living a holy life. (I do too!) However, these divine gifts, given by the Holy Ghost are very attainable, due to the fact, that upon our salvation we also became ” … partakers of the divine nature … ” (vs. 4). This divine nature is in stark contrast and in opposition to our old nature; it can be and must be the dominant force in our lives! Now, how can this be? I think verse two contains the keys that unlock the door to a holy life, well-pleasing to God. The grace and peace so needful, is procured “through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord.” Sad to say, many Christians today know what time the ball game starts, but not when the prayer meeting starts. The children know what’s on channel six but not what is in Matthew six! The Word says, ” … holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:” (Heb. 12:14b) -T.G.
