“Working Together”
“Working Together”
“We then, as workers together with him, beseech you also that ye receive not the grace of God in vain.” II Corinthians 6:1
The road conditions were terrible in Bedford, Pennsylvania on January 27, 2016. The winter storm was taking its toll. A truck driver recalled that the roads were icy when he saw the tractor trailer in front of him begin sliding, tearing off a long section of guardrail, spreading debris and diesel fuel all over the highway, and ending up hanging precariously over a cliff. The driver was hurt and could not exit the cab. Almost instantaneously, drivers from all over jumped out of their vehicles and began running toward the rig. Some eight or ten men formed a human chain and pulled the driver out of his truck. Their quick thinking and banding together saved the man’s life.
The work of the local church should be a similar lifesaving mission. The church members should band together, in prayer and purpose to reach lost folks for Christ. It does not matter who gets the credit. The saving of souls is the reason. Saving lives on icy roads and in other precarious predicaments is a viable task for caring humanity.
On the other hand, the salvation of souls is of paramount importance. Jude, verse 23a says, “And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; ” The Apostle Paul in Romans 9:2-3 even wrote it was worth his own eternal destination! May our united labor of love result in the salvation of souls.” — C. S.
