“Persistence In Service”
“But ye, brethren, be not weary in well doing. ” II Thessalonians 3:13 Time does fly in the service of the Lord. This year is rocketing down the mountain side of time. How thankful we are for everyone who faithfully serves the Lord.
We are thankful for your PERSISTENCE in the ministry. It is a costly investment—no question about it—but the dividends are so much greater than the outlay. You will forget the price. When on a mission field, human nature can be one daunting obstacle tempting one to give up. We can all bring to mind experiences with those few people whose major role in life is to encourage others to throw in the towel.
Recently, I spoke with a missionary who arrived on his field of calling over thirty years ago. As we spoke, he recalled his experience of missions. For the first three years, he and another missionary, daily visited their community and eventually passed out over one million tracts. Yet, in those three fledging years, not one response, nor one decision for Christ occurred. That is PERSISTENCE in the face of silence. Now, thirty-some years later, his efforts are being rewarded. Souls are coming to Christ and lives are being changed by the Gospel.
Many of us have gone through the long, lonely hours away from the applause or even the awareness of the public. Nevertheless, you are serving and witnessing for the glory of • God. It is not a waste. Thank you for your PERSISTENCE! Be encouraged. — D.O. DON OHM, Pastor, Lighthouse Baptist Church, Orlando, FL
