Past, Present And Future Of The Church – Ephesians 25-26
“Past, Present And Future Of The Church” “… Christ also loved the church, and gave himselffor it; ” “That he might sanctify, and cleanse it… ” “That he might present it to himselfa glorious church, …” Ephesians 5:25b, 26a, 27a
The thoughts are profundity robed in simplicity. This outline or trio of thoughts jumped off the page in my Bible and wonderfully wrote themselves. God loved the world and the Lord Jesus Christ loved the church so much in the past that He left His Father in Heaven, his mother, Mary at the cross and desired to be united with His soon to be heavenly bride. Not unlike a man would leave his folks to be wed in this life, this too is strategically placed in verse 25. This present hour Jesus is still making up the earthly bride and is preparing her for the consummation in the heavens. The Word of God is the “soap” that the Lord uses to make His bride prepared for that day. Hebrews 9:14 speaks of another cleansing formula in this great task of making a bride fit for the glorious Groom. The blood of Christ, through the Spirit of God purges the bride and brings her to Him to serve the Lord. Ephesians 5:27 proclaims that one day, Oh, glorious hour, the church is presented without spot, wrinkle, blemish or any such thing to Him as His holy bride forevermore. Yes, there will be a marriage between the Lamb and His beloved wife—the church, and she will be “…arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints” (Rev. 19:7-8). — T.G.
