A Permanent Mentor – John 14:26
“A Permanent Mentor”
“But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. ” John 14:26
First, the Holy Ghost is a genuine person. In both John 14 and 15, Jesus refers to Him with personal pronouns. He gives the Spirit relationship qualities. Second, the Holy Ghost indwells all believers. Jesus said, “…he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you” (John 14:17). We actually have one of the “Godhead” living inside each of us that are saved. Third, He is the seal of our salvation. The Apostle Paul says that God “… hath also sealed us, and given the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts ” (II Cor. 1:22). The Roman seal on the tomb of Jesus could be broken, but God’s seal cannot. Fourth, the Holy Ghost is our permanent mentor. Jesus said that He would teach us all things. Christ also said, “… when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth:… ” (John 16:13). That is why I talk with Him when I am preparing sermons. Fifth, the Holy Ghost fills us when we submit to Him (cf. Eph. 5:17-21). Paul issues a command, “… be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit; ” The filling equals control, and the consequences are different from the results of control by wine. Joy, thankfulness, and ongoing submission flow from the Spirit’s control. Are you filled with the Holy Spirit right now? — G.G.
