“Doing Something God Can Do”

” … forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching
forth unto those things which are before … ‘
Philippians 3:13b
On a rather homely note, I feed birds the whole year round.
They are like friends that you don’t have to constantly
communicate with, they are just there! And, yes, God feeds
the birds, too (see Luke 12:24).
I would like to address forgetting and not in the negative
aspects of the subject. Paul told us to forget things in the past
that have transpired, that perhaps, are negative spiritual drains
or determined discouragements we faced. Just forget them and
go on for God!!
Does God forget? Yes! In Jeremiah he recorded that God
brought Israel out of Egypt. Chapter 31, verse 32 and
proclaimed: ” … for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will
remember their sin no more” (vs. 34b) The writer of Hebrews
put it this way: “And their sins and iniquities will I remember
no more” (10:17).
The forgiven saint has no worries or concerns about the
Lord bringing up one’s past, confessed, forsaken and forgiven
sins (see I John 1:7-10 & 2:1-2). Glory to God! The only one
that does drag things up out of the dunghill-like grave of
forgetfulness is the devil, the accuser of the brethren (cf. Rev.
12:10). So, since God can forgive and forget, so too must the
forgiven Christian forget those things in the past and keep on
keeping on in faith. Paul put it this wonderful way as a goal to
achieve: “I press toward the mark for the prize of the high
calling of God in Christ Jesus (Phil. 3:14). To be like Him is
the goal of the godly saint. – T.G.
