Are You Buying It?
“Are You Buying It?”
“Buy the truth, and sell it not … ” Proverbs 23:23a
To “Buy the truth” means to pay the price; it means I take
possession or ownership of that truth. It means I assume
responsibility for that truth. I must now protect it and contend
for it. I bought it, I know the value, it’s mine. You’re not taking
this from me, and you’re not going to drag it through the “mud”
without fighting me.
Don’t just believe the truth intellectually. You say, “I
believe that, uh huh,” and do nothing with it. Don’t borrow the
truth. A lot of people borrow the truth; they borrow their
parent’s truth, while they are under their parent’s authority.
They live by their parent’s truth and convictions, but it never
becomes their own truth and their personal convictions. They
never bought it, they never took possession of it, it never
became their own. When they leave home, they give back to
their parents what they have borrowed.
These have no idea of the value of truth. They’re not
worried about protecting or preserving it. Their thinking is,
“Oh, I love my parents, but I’m not living at home now.”. “I
love my preacher, and my preacher had those standards, but I
don’t go to that church now.” Hey, these people heard the
truth, and they didn’t buy it; they borrowed truth. And since
they were not rebels like some people who won’t even borrow
it, they conformed to the rule for a time but never bought the
principle.
Do you love the Lord? Do you love His Book? Are you
“buying it?” Remember, truth comes at a cost to self:
separation and sanctification. – D.C.
